Sites Like Betwinner & Melbet (2026): Safer, Locally Licensed Alternatives in Africa
Betwinner and Melbet are big names in African betting, heavily promoted through affiliate sites and Telegram ads. Both offer huge sportsbooks, thousands of casino games, big multi-deposit bonuses and dozens of payment methods. Both are also linked to the 1xBet platform: SBC News described Melbet as a white-label partner using 1xBet’s betting platform, and Betwinner is widely reported to be connected to it, although that link hasn’t been officially confirmed.
Their licence picture is patchy. Betwinner holds a Lagos licence in Nigeria and is on Tanzania’s register, but isn’t licensed in Uganda or Ghana. Melbet is licensed in Cameroon and was on Kenya’s 2025/26 register, had its Ugandan authorisation withdrawn from 1 January 2026, and its Lagos licence hadn’t started when we checked. This guide to sites like Betwinner and Melbet explains where each brand stands and recommends safer, locally licensed alternatives in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, South Africa, Cameroon and Zambia. Every fact was checked in October and November 2026.

Disclosure: this guide contains affiliate links to alternatives we found on a local regulator’s register. We don’t link to any Kenyan bookmaker while the regulator’s 2026 register is unpublished, and in South Africa we link only for sports and horse racing betting. This guide isn’t legal advice.
📌 Key takeaways
Betwinner: Lagos-licensed in Nigeria (Advanced Hospitality, from 7 June 2026) and on Tanzania’s register; not on Uganda’s or Ghana’s lists.
Melbet: licensed in Cameroon (MINAT 000063) and on Kenya’s 2025/26 register; a Ghanaian sports licence is reported but we couldn’t confirm it on the register; Ugandan authorisation withdrawn from 1 January 2026; Lagos licence due to start 2 December 2026.
Neither holds a South African provincial licence in our research, and neither has a named, consistently licensed company in Zambia.
Best alternatives: Bet9ja, Betano and SportyBet in Nigeria; Betway, Betano and betPawa in Ghana; betPawa in Uganda and Zambia; Hollywoodbets and Sportingbet in South Africa; Betclic in Cameroon.
Kenya: no links until the Gambling Regulatory Authority publishes its 2026 register.
⚠️ “Safer” doesn’t mean risk-free. A local licence gives you a regulator to complain to, local taxes handled for you, and access to national self-exclusion. It doesn’t make betting a way to earn money. Whichever site you choose, set a budget and stick to it.
🤔 Why look for sites like Betwinner and Melbet?
People look for alternatives to Betwinner and Melbet for three main reasons.
The licence isn’t valid where you live. A Curaçao licence doesn’t make a site legal in Uganda, South Africa or Zambia, and in some countries one brand is licensed while the other isn’t.
The 1xBet connection. In 2018, SBC News reported that 1xBet had launched white-label products and named Melbet.com as one of its white-label partners using the 1xBet platform. Betwinner, launched in 2018, is widely described as linked to 1xBet, but NewsDay notes there’s “no official information” confirming the relationships. That matters because 1xBet itself has a long list of controversies.
Practical frustrations. In Nigeria, Soccernet reported support issues at Betwinner, and multi-deposit casino bonuses at both brands come with 35x wagering and short time limits.
The 1xBet background in brief
According to Wikipedia’s summary of investigations, 1xBet lost its UK licence in 2019 after a Sunday Times investigation, its subsidiary 1xCorp was declared bankrupt in Curaçao in 2022 and by the Dutch Supreme Court in January 2023 after refusing to refund gamblers, and Bellingcat and Josimar reported in October 2024 on alleged fake live-streamed matches. 1xBet has disputed several of these reports and says its Curaçao licence is valid. None of this is a finding against Betwinner or Melbet, but it explains why some bettors prefer brands outside that network.

So the honest answer is: in Nigeria, Betwinner is a licensed option, and in Cameroon, Melbet is. In those cases, the “safer alternative” question is about track record and features rather than legality. In Uganda, Zambia, Rwanda and South Africa, neither brand is a licensed choice, and switching is the safe move.
🔍 What Betwinner and Melbet offer where they’re licensed
Betwinner in Nigeria
Betwinner’s Nigerian operation runs through Advanced Hospitality under its Lagos licence. Soccernet’s August 2026 review describes about 2,000 casino games from major providers, slots from ₦4 a spin, a broad naira cashier, a ₦300,000 withdrawal cap, an Android APK of about 68.8 MB and a phone line on 0800 123 5343, but also reports support problems. Its casino welcome package was reported at up to ₦655,000 plus 150 free spins, from a ₦4,000 minimum deposit, with 35x wagering and a time limit that sources gave as either 7 or 30 days. Sports free-bet offers were reported at ₦42,000 or ₦43,949, depending on the source.
If you’re in Lagos and happy with Betwinner, it is a licensed choice. The alternatives in this guide are for bettors who want a licence that also covers the FCT, a cleaner ownership story, or lighter bonus terms.
Melbet in Cameroon
Melbet’s strongest licensed footprint in our research is Cameroon. Its .cm site is run by LOYAL COUNTRY SAS under MINAT authorisation 000063, issued on 25 July 2024. Its site shows a welcome bonus up to 130,000 FCFA, with sources giving the match as 100%, 150% or 200%, and minimum deposits reported as 250, 300 or 600 FCFA. Melbet’s terms say 18+, but Cameroon’s legal betting age is 21, according to Gambling Maps and other sources, so play only if you’re 21 or over. Apps are listed for Android, iOS and Windows on Melbet’s site, while LeBonParisSportif mentions only iOS.
Melbet in Kenya
Melbet’s Kenyan company, Game Tosha Ltd, held bookmaker licence BK 0001174 and public gaming licence PG 0001176 on Kenya’s 2025/26 register. Like every Kenyan bookmaker, its 2026 status can’t be independently confirmed until the GRA publishes its register.

🔎 The best Betwinner and Melbet alternatives
We’ve picked these alternatives for what Betwinner and Melbet users value most: deep football markets, accumulator boosts, low minimums and local payments, but with a local licence and a cleaner record. The country section below shows the best choice where you live.
1. Bet9ja: Nigeria’s established alternative
🛡️ Licence: LSLGA, KC Gaming Networks Ltd, 3 Oct 2026 – 2 Oct 2027; also on the FCT list
🚀 Accumulators: Cut 1, 1UP and Multiple Boost up to 170%
💳 Min. deposit: ₦100
🪙 Crypto: USDT deposits from 1 USDT after KYC
If you use Betwinner in Nigeria for its huge football menu and accumulator promotions, Bet9ja is the most natural switch. It’s licensed in Lagos and on the Federal Capital Territory’s list, which Betwinner isn’t. Its accumulator tools rival Betwinner’s: Cut 1 pays a 5+ leg slip even if one selection loses, 1UP settles your bet once your team goes a goal up, and the Multiple Boost adds up to 170% to accumulator winnings. It even accepts USDT deposits, so Betwinner users who like crypto aren’t left out.
✅ Pros
✅ Licensed in Lagos and the FCT
✅ Strong accumulator tools
✅ Wide naira cashier plus USDT
⚠️ Cons
⚠️ Smaller welcome offer than Betwinner’s
⚠️ Support hours limited
Best for: Nigerian accumulator bettors who want a long-established local brand.
💰 Welcome: 50% up to ₦200,000 (NG); 100% up to GHS 2,000 (GH)
💳 Min. deposit: ₦100 in Nigeria
📱 App: iOS and Android
Betano, run by Greece-based Kaizen Gaming, is the alternative for bettors who want a polished product rather than the endless menus of Betwinner and Melbet. It offers Bet Builder, early payout, cash out and live streaming on selected events, and it’s licensed in both Nigeria and Ghana. In Ghana, it holds licences for both sports betting and online casino, which matters because Melbet’s reported Ghanaian licence covers sports only.
✅ Pros
✅ Licensed in Nigeria and Ghana
✅ Bet Builder, early payout, streaming
✅ Large casino
⚠️ Cons
⚠️ Demanding bonus wagering in Nigeria
⚠️ Only two of our countries
Best for: Nigerian and Ghanaian bettors who want in-play tools and a regulated casino.
🛡️ Licences: LSLGA (Marawin Ltd, to 4 Jan 2027); GCG 2026; Kenya 2025/26
🚀 Multi Bet Bonus: up to 1,000%
💳 Min. ticket: ₦10 in Nigeria
⚡ Payouts: OPay withdrawals in under a minute in ChampsBase’s test
Melbet and Betwinner users who mostly build football accumulators on their phones will feel at home at SportyBet. Its Multi Bet Bonus boosts winning multiples of two or more selections at odds of 1.20+, up to 1,000%, and its stakes start at ₦10. ChampsBase rated its Nigerian football catalogue the deepest it found and measured tighter prices than Bet9ja on a Premier League fixture. There’s no welcome bonus in Nigeria.
✅ Pros
✅ Licensed in Nigeria and Ghana
✅ Up to 1,000% accumulator bonus
✅ Very fast payouts
⚠️ Cons
⚠️ No welcome bonus in Nigeria
⚠️ Lagos licence due for renewal in January 2027
Best for: mobile accumulator bettors in Nigeria and Ghana.
🚀 Win Bonus: on accumulators of 3+ legs, no wagering
💳 Min. deposit: GHS 1 in Ghana
📱 App: light Android app
betPawa is the best alternative in the countries where Melbet and Betwinner have no licence. In Uganda, where Melbet’s authorisation was withdrawn and Betwinner isn’t listed, betPawa’s local company holds both betting and casino licences. In Zambia, where neither brand has a named local company, betPawa operates through Betbio Zambia Limited. Its Win Bonus adds a percentage to winning accumulators of three or more legs, paid as cash with no wagering.
✅ Pros
✅ Licensed in Ghana, Uganda, Zambia and Tanzania
✅ Wager-free accumulator bonus
✅ Very low minimums
⚠️ Cons
⚠️ Narrower sportsbook than Betwinner or Melbet
⚠️ No standard welcome bonus
Best for: small-stake accumulator bettors in Uganda, Zambia and Ghana.
🛡️ Licences: Ghana (GCG 2026), Tanzania (Media Bay), South Africa (WCGRB and MER)
🏢 Owner: Super Group, listed on the NYSE
💳 Payments: local methods in each country
📱 App: iOS and Android
For bettors whose main worry about Betwinner and Melbet is who’s behind them, Betway is the clearest contrast: its parent, Super Group, is listed on the New York Stock Exchange and publishes financial results. It’s licensed in Ghana for sports and casino, in Tanzania, and in South Africa for sports and racing. In Nigeria, its new Lagos entry starts later in November 2026, so check the register before you join there.
✅ Pros
✅ NYSE-listed parent
✅ Licensed in Ghana, Tanzania and South Africa
✅ Build a Bet and Win Boost
⚠️ Cons
⚠️ Smaller bonuses
⚠️ Not in Kenya or Uganda
Best for: bettors who want a transparent international owner.
🛡️ Hollywoodbets: KwaZulu-Natal master licence, Western Cape and others
🛡️ Sportingbet: WCGRB, Greatodds (Pty) Ltd, owned by Entain
💰 Welcome: R25 free bet (Hollywoodbets); up to R15,000 over 3 deposits (Sportingbet)
📺 Extras: racing at Hollywoodbets; Sportingbet TV streaming
Neither Betwinner nor Melbet is a provincially licensed bookmaker in South Africa, so South African bettors should switch. Hollywoodbets is the favourite for horse racing and offers a R25 free bet with no deposit. Sportingbet, owned by Entain, is closer to Betwinner and Melbet in market depth, with live streaming, a 2Up early payout and a 500% Multi Boost. Use both for sports and racing only, as online casino games are illegal and casino-style games at bookmakers are disputed.
Best for: South African sports and racing bettors.
🌍 Best Betwinner and Melbet alternatives by country
Licences are national (or, in Nigeria and South Africa, state or provincial), so the right alternative depends on where you live.
🇳🇬 Nigeria
Nigeria’s states regulate betting since the Supreme Court’s November 2024 ruling, and Lagos is the most important regulator. Betwinner is on the Lagos register; Melbet’s Lagos entry is due to start on 2 December 2026. Betwinner isn’t on the Federal Capital Territory’s list in our research. Lagos-licensed operators deduct a 5% withholding tax from winnings.

SportyBet
Marawin Ltd, 5 Jan 2026 – 4 Jan 2027

Our pick for Nigeria:Bet9ja, licensed in both Lagos and the FCT. If you’re happy with Betwinner, it is Lagos-licensed, but check the register: its listed expiry date (6 April 2027) is earlier than its 7 June 2026 start would suggest for a one-year licence.
The Gaming Commission of Ghana (GCG) licenses sports betting and online casino separately, and all 2026 licences run to 31 December 2026. Betwinner isn’t on the register. Melbet is reported to hold a sports-only licence, with its casino under Curaçao. Ghana repealed its 10% tax on winnings from 2 April 2025.

Kenya’s Gambling Regulatory Authority replaced the BCLB under the Gambling Control Act 2025. Licences on the 2025/26 register were valid until 24 September 2026, and the GRA hadn’t published a 2026 register by mid-October 2026. Melbet’s Kenyan company, Game Tosha Ltd, was on the 2025/26 register; we couldn’t confirm a Kenyan licence for Betwinner. Kenyan law also bans crypto and credit for gambling, and takes 5% excise on deposits and 5% withholding on withdrawals.

Our pick for South Africa:Sportingbet if you want Betwinner-style market depth and streaming, or Hollywoodbets for racing. Sports and racing only.
Cameroon authorises betting through the Ministry of Territorial Administration (MINAT), and the legal betting age is 21. Melbet Cameroun is authorised (000063, issued 25 July 2024, run by LOYAL COUNTRY SAS), so in Cameroon, Melbet’s local .cm site is a licensed option. Betwinner’s authorisation (000036) comes from a single source. If you want an alternative, Betclic Cameroun holds authorisation 000059, issued on 28 April 2026, according to its own terms.
Our pick for Cameroon:Betclic, or Melbet’s licensed .cm site rather than its international one.
Zambia has no public register, so the best check is a named local company and licence. We found neither for Betwinner or Melbet. betPawa operates through Betbio Zambia Limited and displayed licence CL-001083/2-2026 in October 2026, according to Gambling Maps, with MTN, Airtel and Zamtel payments.

🎁 Big bonuses vs real value
Betwinner’s and Melbet’s headline bonuses are what pull many players in. In Nigeria, Soccernet reported Betwinner’s casino welcome package as up to ₦655,000 plus 150 free spins, from a ₦4,000 minimum deposit, with 35x wagering and a time limit reported as either 7 or 30 days. In Cameroon, Melbet’s site offers a bonus up to 130,000 FCFA.
Here’s what 35x wagering means in practice. Take a ₦10,000 casino bonus: you’d need to wager ₦350,000 before withdrawing. On slots with a 4% house edge, that much play costs about ₦14,000 on average, more than the bonus. Over 7 days, it also means wagering about ₦50,000 a day. That’s why we judge bonuses by their terms. A smaller offer with light wagering, or a wager-free accumulator boost like betPawa’s Win Bonus, is often worth more.

🔄 How to switch from Betwinner or Melbet safely
Finish or cancel active bonuses so they don’t block your withdrawal.
Withdraw your full balance to the same method you deposited with, and keep the transaction records.
If you’re in Uganda and had a Melbet balance, contact Melbet support in writing and keep the replies; its authorisation was withdrawn from 1 January 2026.
Close the account through support or the account settings, and turn off its notifications and Telegram channels.
Open an account with a licensed alternative using your own name and ID, and set a deposit limit first.
Self-exclude if you need a break: Lagos’s SafePlay, Kenya’s planned national register or South Africa’s National Register of Excluded Persons cover licensed operators.
🗓️ Your first week after switching
Day 1: register with your own name and ID, and complete verification straight away so withdrawals aren’t delayed.
Before depositing: set a weekly deposit limit that matches what you used to spend, or less.
Compare the bonus: read the wagering and time limit before opting in. If you won’t bet the amount required, skip it.
Make a small first deposit with your usual mobile money or bank method, and note how quickly it arrives.
Test a withdrawal of a small amount, so you know the process before you have a big balance.
Rebuild your favourite bets: find the leagues and markets you used on Betwinner or Melbet, and check the accumulator boost rules.
End of week: compare what you’ve spent with your budget, and unsubscribe from any old Betwinner or Melbet promotions.
Switching is also a good moment to reset your habits: turn off betting notifications and leave promotional Telegram channels, so you bet when you decide to, not when an alert tells you to.
🚩 Red flags with Betwinner and Melbet lookalikes
Mirror sites and “new links” shared on Telegram: use only the local domain you can verify, such as melbet.com.cm in Cameroon.
APK files from chat groups: download only from the official site of the licensed local brand.
“Agents” offering to fund your account by bank transfer or crypto: you lose any protection if something goes wrong.
Promo-code sellers and “fixed match” groups: these are scams.
No company name in the footer: a licensed local site names its company and licence number.
🔎 How to check a bookmaker’s licence
Nigeria: the LSLGA’s published list of licensed operators (check the start and end dates), plus your state’s regulator.
Ghana: the Gaming Commission of Ghana’s annual list, which shows sports and casino licences separately.
Kenya: call the GRA on 0800 723 770 until the 2026 register is published.
Uganda: the NLGRB’s list of licensed companies.
Tanzania: the Gaming Board of Tanzania’s online register.
Cameroon: the MINAT authorisation number in the operator’s terms, in the format 0000xx/A/MINAT/SG/DAP/SDLP/SJ.
South Africa: the provincial licence number in the footer, checked with that provincial board.

🔍 How we researched this guide
We checked Betwinner’s and Melbet’s status against the LSLGA register, the GCG 2026 list, Kenya’s 2025/26 register, the NLGRB 2026 list, the Gaming Board of Tanzania’s register and MINAT authorisations, in AffSupreme’s country research from October and November 2026. Background on the 1xBet platform comes from SBC News, NewsDay and Wikipedia. Alternatives’ licences and features come from the same registers and our brand reviews. We didn’t open funded accounts for this guide. Where sources disagree, we say so.

Do I understand the new site’s bonus wagering?
