Best Betting Sites in Malawi 2026: MAGLA-Licensed Bookmakers, Taxes and Mobile Money Compared

Looking for the best betting sites in Malawi? You have more choice than ever, but also more risk. The Malawi Gaming and Lotteries Authority (MAGLA) publishes an official list of licensed sports betting operators, and it has warned that some gaming operators are doing business in Malawi without a licence. Many of the brands advertised to Malawians online aren’t on MAGLA’s list at all.

This guide ranks only bookmakers that appear on MAGLA’s licensed-operator lists, compares their bonuses, minimum deposits and Airtel Money and TNM Mpamba support, and explains the 15% tax on winnings that has applied to every win since 31 December 2025. Every fact was checked in October and November 2026, and where sources disagree we say so.

📌 Key takeaways

  • Best overall: Betway, run by Golden Bay Limited, with deposits from K50, a Win Boost of up to 1,000% on multi-bets, live streaming and a full casino.
  • Best for small stakes: betPawa, run by Kuwina Limited, with K50 deposits and a Win Bonus of up to 1,000% on accumulators of three or more legs.
  • Best local favourite: Premier Bet, one of Malawi’s longest-running bookmakers, with a 100% first deposit bonus of up to K50,000 and a big Aviator following.
  • Licensing: only MAGLA-licensed bookmakers are legal. MAGLA’s licensed-operator page lists 11 sports betting brands with websites.
  • Tax: 15% is withheld from all betting winnings, with no tax-free threshold, since 31 December 2025.
  • Help: MAGLA’s toll-free line 4252 handles complaints, problem gambling counselling and self-exclusion.
  • Age: you must be 18 or older.
⚠️ Check MAGLA’s list before you deposit: MAGLA says that “participation in unlicensed gaming and lottery activities is strictly at players’ own risk.” Brands such as 22Bet, BetWinner, 1Win, Melbet and Bet365 are promoted to Malawians online, but none appears on MAGLA’s lists, so you’d have no local complaints route if something went wrong.

🔬 How we chose the best betting sites in Malawi

Malawi makes the first step easy: MAGLA publishes who is licensed. So our process starts there and gets stricter:

  1. On MAGLA’s lists: every ranked brand appears both on MAGLA’s licensed-operator web page (updated March 2026) and in its September 2025 list of licensed sports betting operators. Brands on only one list are covered separately below.
  2. A named Malawian company: such as Golden Bay Limited for Betway or Kuwina Limited for betPawa.
  3. Mobile money: Airtel Money and TNM Mpamba support, minimum deposits and how withdrawals work.
  4. Fair promotions: clear terms matter more to us than the headline figure.
  5. Mobile access: apps, light sites, USSD and SMS betting for basic phones.
  6. Local presence: shops, sponsorships of Malawian sport and a track record of paying big wins.
  7. Responsible gambling: age checks, identity verification, and cooperation with MAGLA’s self-exclusion scheme.

We couldn’t confirm every product detail from a recent source. Where a figure is missing, we say so rather than guess. We also don’t rank on odds for single matches, because prices change constantly; compare two licensed sites before a bigger bet.

⭐ The best betting sites in Malawi: reviews

1. Betway: the best betting site in Malawi overall

★★★★½8.8/10
🛡️ Licensed company: Golden Bay Limited (t/a Betway), on MAGLA’s list
🎁 Offer: Win Boost of up to 1,000% on pre-game multi-bets
💳 Payments: Airtel Money and TNM Mpamba; deposits from K50
📱 App: Android APK from Betway’s website; mobile site for iPhone

Why it’s our top pick

Betway combines a licence from MAGLA with the widest product range we found among Malawi’s licensed bookmakers. Betting Malawi’s January 2026 review lists more than 30 sports, including football, tennis, basketball, MMA and esports, plus special bets, live betting, live streaming of selected events and cash out on a range of markets. Betway was also one of three operators, with betPawa and Premier Bet, that MAGLA consulted after the 2025 tax changes, a sign of its weight in the market.

🎁 Promotions

Betway’s main promotion in Malawi is a Win Boost: each leg at odds of 1.20 or more adds to the boost on a multi-bet, starting at 3% and rising up to 1,000%. It applies to pre-game selections only. Betting Malawi also lists Super Boost Saturday on selected combo bets such as 1X2 and total goals on big Saturday matches, and Free Play Friday giveaways for logged-in customers.

💳 Payments

Deposits start at K50 through Airtel Money or TNM Mpamba, and the maximum depends on the payment method. Withdrawals go to mobile money and can take up to two business days, depending on the method. You must upload identity documents before withdrawals are enabled, so verify your account straight after signing up.

🎰 Casino and Aviator

Betway’s Malawi site includes slots, jackpots, live games such as roulette, blackjack, baccarat and game shows, and Aviator, according to Betting Malawi. Casino winnings are taxed differently from betting wins (see our tax section).

📱 App

Betting Malawi says Betway’s Android app is an APK download from its website, because Google doesn’t allow betting apps in the Malawian Play Store, so you’ll need to allow installs from unknown sources. There’s no dedicated iPhone app; add the mobile site to your home screen instead.

✅ Pros

  • ✅ MAGLA-licensed through Golden Bay Limited
  • ✅ K50 minimum deposit
  • ✅ Live streaming and cash out
  • ✅ Win Boost of up to 1,000%

⚠️ Cons

  • ⚠️ No traditional welcome bonus
  • ⚠️ Android app is an APK, not on Google Play
  • ⚠️ Withdrawals can take up to two business days
Best for: bettors who want the broadest sportsbook, live streaming and a casino under one MAGLA licence.
Visit Betway 18+ | T&Cs apply | Gamble responsibly

2. betPawa: the best for small stakes

★★★★½8.6/10
🛡️ Licensed company: Kuwina Limited (t/a betPawa), on MAGLA’s list
🎁 Offer: Win Bonus of up to 1,000% on accumulators of 3+ legs at odds 1.20+
💳 Payments: Airtel Money and TNM Mpamba; K50 to K750,000 per deposit
📱 App: Android app and light mobile site

Why we rate it

betPawa is built for exactly the way most Malawians bet: small stakes, on a phone, with mobile money. Betting Malawi lists a K50 minimum deposit and a K750,000 maximum, with Airtel Money and TNM Mpamba for both deposits and withdrawals. Its product range covers sports, live betting, virtual sports, casino games and esports.

🎁 Win Bonus

betPawa’s headline promotion is its Win Bonus, which adds up to 1,000% to the winnings on accumulators. You need at least three eligible legs, each at odds of 1.20 or more; shorter-priced legs don’t count. It’s a good fit for small-stake multi-bets, but remember that every extra leg makes the bet less likely to win.

⚽ Commitment to Malawian football

In April 2025, betPawa launched its Locker Room Bonus with the Football Association of Malawi for the new regional women’s football league, committing more than K273 million across 270 matches, FocusGN reported. Winning teams receive bonuses paid straight to players’ mobile money after each game. “This sponsorship is more than funding; it is motivation,” said FAM vice-president Madalitso Kuyera.

✅ Pros

  • ✅ MAGLA-licensed through Kuwina Limited
  • ✅ K50 deposits; high K750,000 maximum
  • ✅ Win Bonus up to 1,000%
  • ✅ Light site for slow connections

⚠️ Cons

  • ⚠️ Welcome bonus terms not published in detail
  • ⚠️ Fewer extras such as live streaming
  • ⚠️ Sources differ on iPhone app availability
Best for: small-stake accumulator bettors who pay with Airtel Money or TNM Mpamba.
Visit betPawa 18+ | T&Cs apply | Gamble responsibly

3. Premier Bet: the best local favourite

★★★★8.3/10
🛡️ Licensed company: Premier Bet Limited, on MAGLA’s list
🎁 Welcome offer: 100% first deposit bonus on sports, up to K50,000 (Nyasa Times)
🧰 Tools: Bet Builder and the Mr Predictor tips feature
📱 App: mobile app available

Why we rate it

Premier Bet is one of the best-known names in Malawian betting. Nyasa Times described it as a local bookmaker that released its app in 2016, and in 2022 it was reported as Malawi’s only licensed online operator. Today it’s one of the major operators MAGLA consults on policy, alongside Betway and betPawa, and it’s a prominent sponsor of Malawian netball, music and youth events.

🎁 Welcome offer and tools

Nyasa Times’ registration guide lists a 100% first deposit bonus on sports betting of up to K50,000; check the current terms, because the guide doesn’t give wagering details. For AFCON 2025, Premier Bet promoted Bet Builder, which combines goals, cards, corners and other markets from one match on a single slip, and Mr Predictor, which it describes as “full of facts and knowledge to help bettors win cash on their football bets.”

✈️ Aviator

Premier Bet has a big Aviator following in Malawi. In July 2022, Nation Online reported that five players won a combined K400 million on its Aviator game, with stakes as low as K50; the company called it its biggest payout in the country. Crash games are fast and high-risk, so set a budget first.

💳 Registration and payments

Sign-up takes about five minutes: enter your details and phone number, then confirm with an SMS code. You may be asked for identity documents. We couldn’t confirm Premier Bet’s current minimum deposit or exact mobile money options from a recent source, so check the cashier before you deposit.

✅ Pros

  • ✅ MAGLA-licensed, long-established brand
  • ✅ 100% welcome bonus up to K50,000
  • ✅ Bet Builder and Mr Predictor
  • ✅ Strong local sponsorships

⚠️ Cons

  • ⚠️ Bonus wagering terms not published in our sources
  • ⚠️ Minimum deposit not confirmed
  • ⚠️ Aviator’s popularity carries real risk
Best for: bettors who want a familiar Malawian brand with a matched welcome bonus and bet-building tools.

4. World Star Betting: the best welcome bonus

★★★★8.0/10
🛡️ Licensed company: World Star Betting, on MAGLA’s list
🎁 Welcome offer: 20% of your first deposit up to K50,000, as a free bet
💳 Payments: Airtel Money and TNM Mpamba; deposits from K50
📱 App: Android and iOS app (Betting Malawi)

Why we rate it

World Star Betting, also known as WSBET, is a Malawian brand with deep roots in local football. It has supplied kits to teams at the national beach soccer championship, according to the Football Association of Malawi, and has sponsored man-of-the-match awards at Super League side Blue Eagles, Zodiak reported. Betting Malawi lists sports betting across football, basketball, cricket, rugby, tennis and esports, plus live betting, virtual sports and casino games.

🎁 Welcome offer

New customers get 20% of their first deposit, up to K50,000, to use as a free bet. The catch: you need a bet with at least five unrelated selections at odds of 2.00 or more, which is hard to win. Treat it as a small extra, not a reason to bet bigger.

💳 Payments

Deposits start at K50 through Airtel Money or TNM Mpamba, and withdrawals use the same wallets. Betting Malawi advises checking for transaction fees.

✅ Pros

  • ✅ MAGLA-licensed Malawian brand
  • ✅ Welcome free bet up to K50,000
  • ✅ K50 deposits via Airtel and Mpamba
  • ✅ Android and iPhone app

⚠️ Cons

  • ⚠️ Bonus needs 5+ selections at odds 2.00+
  • ⚠️ No dedicated loyalty programme
  • ⚠️ Possible transaction fees
Best for: football fans who want a local brand and a welcome free bet.
Visit World Star Betting 18+ | New customers | T&Cs apply | Gamble responsibly

5. Betika: the best for Super League fans

★★★★7.8/10
🛡️ Licensed company: Betika Limited, on MAGLA’s list
📅 In Malawi since: 2022
⚽ Sponsorships: Mzuzu City Hammers; headline backer of the Sapitwa top four competition
📱 Site: Betika Lite for Malawi

Why we rate it

Betika is a major East African brand that began operating in Malawi in 2022. It signed a K30 million, three-year sponsorship with Super League club Mzuzu City Hammers, including a K200,000 monthly award for the team’s top player, and it has been the headline backer of the Sapitwa top four competition, Africa Brief reported. MAGLA’s register links to Betika’s “Lite” site for Malawi, a light version designed for slower connections and cheaper data.

What we couldn’t confirm

We couldn’t find a recent, reliable source for Betika Malawi’s welcome offer, minimum deposit or exact mobile money options. Check the site’s promotions and cashier pages before you deposit, and read the terms of any jackpot or free bet.

✅ Pros

  • ✅ MAGLA-licensed through Betika Limited
  • ✅ Light site for slow connections
  • ✅ Strong Super League presence

⚠️ Cons

  • ⚠️ Bonus and deposit limits not confirmed
  • ⚠️ Less detail available than for the top brands
Best for: bettors who want a light, data-friendly site from a large regional brand.
Visit Betika 18+ | T&Cs apply | Gamble responsibly

6. BetYanga: the best for basic phones

★★★★7.6/10
🛡️ Licensed company: Supapesa Limited (t/a BetYanga), on MAGLA’s list
📲 Access: website, SMS and USSD 4297#
🎰 Products: sports, football prediction jackpots, virtuals and casino games including Aviator
🧪 Extra: practice games with virtual currency

Why we rate it

BetYanga is the most accessible licensed option if you don’t have a smartphone. BetYanga Online launched in February 2025, and you can bet through the website, by SMS or by dialling USSD 4297#, FocusGN reported. It also offers “rehearsal” games that let you practise with virtual currency before betting real money, a useful way to learn without risk.

🏆 Jackpots

BetYanga’s football prediction game has produced some of Malawi’s biggest betting wins. In April 2025, three bettors won over K51 million each and a fourth won K9 million, and a Mzuzu player later won K14.5 million on Aviator, according to FocusGN. Jackpots are very hard to win, so treat the entry as entertainment.

✅ Pros

  • ✅ MAGLA-licensed through Supapesa Limited
  • ✅ SMS and USSD betting without a smartphone
  • ✅ Practice mode with virtual currency
  • ✅ Large football prediction jackpots

⚠️ Cons

  • ⚠️ Welcome bonus and limits not confirmed
  • ⚠️ MAGLA lists its website without https
Best for: bettors on basic phones and jackpot players.

7. MWOS: the newest licensed brand with shops

★★★½7.3/10
🛡️ Licensed company: Moors World of Sports Limited, on MAGLA’s list
📅 In Malawi since: 2025
🏪 Shops: expanding from Nsanje to Chitipa
🌍 Group: also licensed in Zambia

Why we include it

Moors World of Sports (MWOS) began operating in Malawi in 2025 and is on MAGLA’s list of licensed sports betting operators. At a stakeholder event in Blantyre in December 2025, managing director Tafadzwa Matope said the company planned more shops across the country, “from Nsanje in the south to Chitipa in the north”, and wanted to create jobs, especially for young people, MBC reported. “We want to create employment,” he said.

What we couldn’t confirm

We couldn’t find a reliable Malawi-specific source for MWOS’s welcome offer, payments or app. Check its sportsbook at betting.co.mw for current terms.

✅ Pros

  • ✅ MAGLA-licensed
  • ✅ Growing shop network for cash betting
  • ✅ Regional operator

⚠️ Cons

  • ⚠️ New to Malawi
  • ⚠️ Online offer not confirmed
Best for: bettors who like to bet in shops as well as online.
Visit MWOS 18+ | T&Cs apply | Gamble responsibly

📋 Other MAGLA-listed brands

MAGLA has published two versions of its sports betting list, and they don’t match exactly. The September 2025 press release (updated March 2026) names ten licensed companies; MAGLA’s licensed-operator web page, updated on 9 March 2026, lists 11 brands with their websites. We ranked only brands that appear on both. These appear on just one, or link to a site we couldn’t match to Malawi:

If you use one of these brands, confirm its status with MAGLA first on the toll-free line 4252 or at magla@magla.org.mw. We’ll update our rankings as MAGLA updates its lists, including after its 2026 licensing round.

🚫 Bookmakers we left out

These brands are advertised to Malawian bettors by review sites and news portals, but none appears on either of MAGLA’s lists:

Brands named in Malawi24 (June 2026) and BettingTop10 (2026) roundups, checked against MAGLA’s licensed-operator page and September 2025 list.

Many of these sites accept Airtel Money and TNM Mpamba and advertise big bonuses. But MAGLA warns that unlicensed operators offer no consumer protection, may use unfair practices and can leave players with “loss of winnings with no legal recourse.”

Yes, with a MAGLA-licensed bookmaker. The Gaming and Lotteries Act of 2022 (Act No. 34 of 2022) is Malawi’s main gambling law; MAGLA administers it, and it allows licensed online gambling. Sports betting is governed in detail by the Gaming and Lotteries (Sports Betting) Regulations, 2025. Offering betting without a licence is illegal, and MAGLA has said anyone breaching the law faces “serious legal consequences.”

Regulated online betting arrived in Malawi around 2018, according to Nyasa Times, and in 2022 Premier Bet was reported as the only licensed online operator. The 2022 Act and MAGLA’s later regulations opened the market to more operators, and by 2026 MAGLA’s register listed around a dozen sports betting brands. In April 2023, MAGLA consulted on eight draft regulations, including rules on internet gaming, sports betting, player protection and electronic monitoring.

The 2026 licensing round

On 6 June 2026, MAGLA invited applications for new sports betting and land-based casino licences. The request for proposals cost K2 million for local applicants or US$1,500 for foreign applicants, and sports betting applications closed on 10 July 2026. Applicants face “fit and proper, financial integrity, beneficial ownership” checks, FocusGN reported. MAGLA hadn’t published the results when we checked in November 2026, so expect the list of licensed bookmakers to change.

Electronic monitoring

MAGLA monitors licensed operators through an electronic monitoring system (EMS), which the Ministry of Finance says went live in July 2024; regulations from April 2025 require operators to connect to it. On 21 October 2026, MAGLA invited bids for a new five-year EMS contract, with bids closing on 23 November 2026. For bettors, the EMS means licensed operators’ betting activity is visible to the regulator, which supports fair play and correct tax deductions.

A regulator with growing resources

MAGLA reported a 2024/25 surplus of K7.113 billion, up from K398.74 million the year before, with revenue up 86%, FocusGN reported. It projected 60% growth in the gaming sector in the financial year from April 2026. It has also stepped up enforcement: in December 2025, it destroyed 24 illegal gaming machines.

Advertising and minors

  • Broadcast ads: gambling ads on TV and radio are allowed only between 21:00 and 06:00 under MAGLA’s Directive No. 1 of 2025.
  • Minors: under-18s can’t bet, and Gambling Maps reports fines of up to K20 million for letting a minor gamble.
  • Verification: licensed bookmakers ask for identity documents, usually before your first withdrawal.

💰 Betting tax in Malawi (2026)

Malawi changed its gambling taxes twice in four months, and the changes hit small winners hardest.

15% on all betting winnings

In the November 2025 Mid-Year Budget Review, the withholding tax on gambling winnings rose from 10% to 15% and the tax-free thresholds were removed, Nation Online reported. The change took effect on 31 December 2025 under the Taxation (Amendment) (No. 2) Act 2025, FocusGN reported. Before then, winnings below K100,000, or K500,000 in some cases, were tax-free.

Your licensed bookmaker deducts the tax before paying you. Here’s what that means in practice:

WinningsTax at 15%You receiveBefore 31 Dec 2025 (below threshold)
K5,000K750K4,250K5,000 (tax-free)
K50,000K7,500K42,500K50,000 (tax-free)
K1,000,000K150,000K850,000Taxed at 10%

Illustration. Some sources describe the tax as applying to winnings and others to amounts wagered; check your bet history to see how your bookmaker applies it.

Casino games

The Taxation (Amendment) Act 2026, published on 14 April 2026, introduced a separate 10% rate for casino gaming. Gambling Maps says it’s withheld from the gross amount paid out, while RegFollower describes gaming taxes as applying to amounts wagered. If you play Aviator or slots at a betting site, ask how the tax applies.

The industry’s reaction

MAGLA warned that the new taxes could hurt industry performance and compliance, and it held talks with betPawa, Betway and Premier Bet in January 2026 before planning to meet the Ministry of Finance and the Malawi Revenue Authority. MAGLA chief executive Rachel Mijiga said the aim was a solution that works for government, investors and the public. Industry voices warned that the end of the tax-free threshold could push small-stake bettors towards unlicensed sites, which don’t deduct tax but offer no protection.

💳 Deposits and withdrawals at betting sites in Malawi

Mobile money is how almost everyone pays. Airtel Money and TNM Mpamba are supported by the licensed bookmakers we could check, and bank transfers are getting faster: in June 2025, the fintech PayChangu and Centenary Bank launched instant bank transfers through Malawi’s national switch, Malswitch, to speed up deposits and withdrawals for licensed betting operators, FocusGN reported. Centenary’s mobile service works by dialling *632#, without a smartphone.

Tips for smooth payments

  • Use your own wallet: register with the same name and phone number as your Airtel Money or Mpamba account.
  • Verify early: upload your ID straight after sign-up so your first withdrawal isn’t delayed.
  • Deposit through the official cashier: never send money to an “agent” on WhatsApp or Facebook.
  • Keep records: screenshot transaction IDs in case a payment goes missing.
  • Check the tax line: your bookmaker should show the 15% withheld from winnings.

📝 How to sign up at betting sites in Malawi

  1. Check MAGLA’s list: confirm the brand appears on magla.org.mw, or call 4252.
  2. Open the official site: use the website MAGLA lists or the link on this page.
  3. Register with your phone number: most sites send an SMS code to confirm it; Premier Bet’s sign-up takes about five minutes.
  4. Confirm you’re 18 or over and accept the terms.
  5. Verify your identity: upload your national ID when asked.
  6. Set limits: decide on a deposit limit before your first deposit.
  7. Deposit with Airtel Money or TNM Mpamba through the cashier.
  8. Read the promotion terms before placing a bet that counts towards a bonus.

📱 Betting apps in Malawi

Google doesn’t allow betting apps in the Malawian Play Store, so Android apps from Malawian bookmakers are usually APK files downloaded from the operator’s own website, Betting Malawi notes. That’s safe only if you download from the official site.

⚽ What Malawians bet on

Football dominates. Malawian bettors follow the English Premier League and other European leagues closely, along with the Flames’ international matches and the domestic Super League, whose clubs are sponsored by licensed bookmakers such as Betika and World Star Betting. Netball is popular too, and Premier Bet has invested in netball development. Virtual sports and crash games such as Aviator have grown fast, because rounds run every few minutes on a phone.

Bookmakers and Malawian sport

  • betPawa: the Locker Room Bonus for the FAM regional women’s league, worth more than K273 million across 270 matches.
  • Betika: K30 million with Mzuzu City Hammers and headline backer of the Sapitwa top four.
  • World Star Betting: kits for the beach soccer national championship and man-of-the-match awards at Blue Eagles.
  • Premier Bet: netball development and youth and music events.

📖 Popular betting markets explained

  • 1X2: home win (1), draw (X) or away win (2).
  • Double chance: covers two of the three results, at lower odds.
  • Over/under goals: whether a match has more or fewer goals than a line, such as 2.5.
  • Both teams to score (GG/NG): whether both sides score.
  • Half-time/full-time: the result at both half-time and full-time.
  • Bet Builder: several markets from one match on one slip, offered by Premier Bet.
  • Accumulator (multi-bet): several selections that must all win; Betway’s and betPawa’s boosts apply here.
  • Live betting: bets placed during a match, with odds that change as it unfolds.

🏆 Jackpots at Malawian betting sites

Jackpots offer huge prizes for small stakes, but the odds of winning are tiny. BetYanga’s football prediction game paid three bettors more than K51 million each in April 2025, and Premier Bet’s Aviator produced K400 million in wins for five players in 2022. For every headline winner there are many thousands of losing tickets. If you play, spend only what you’d spend on a night out, and remember that 15% tax is withheld from wins.

🔢 How betting odds work

Malawian bookmakers use decimal odds. Your potential return is your stake multiplied by the odds:

StakeOddsReturnProfitImplied probability
K1,0001.50K1,500K50067%
K1,0002.00K2,000K1,00050%
K1,0004.00K4,000K3,00025%

Implied probability is 1 divided by the odds. Add up the implied probabilities for all outcomes of a match and you’ll get more than 100%: the difference is the bookmaker’s margin. Comparing two licensed bookmakers can get you better odds on the same bet. Remember that 15% tax comes off winnings, so a K2,000 return on a K1,000 stake may pay out less than you expect, depending on how your bookmaker applies the tax.

🧮 Accumulators and boosts: the maths

Win boosts of up to 1,000% sound generous, but they’re paid on bets that rarely win. Each extra leg multiplies the odds and lowers your chance of winning:

Legs at odds 1.50Combined oddsChance all win (fair odds)
33.38About 30%
57.59About 13%
1057.67About 1.7%
15437.89About 0.2%

Illustration assuming each leg’s true probability matches its odds. Real bookmaker margins make the chances slightly lower.

Boosts are best seen as a small extra on bets you’d place anyway, not a reason to add more legs. The same goes for World Star Betting’s welcome free bet, which needs five selections at odds of 2.00 or more: at fair odds, that’s about a 3% chance of winning.

💡 Tips for using betting sites in Malawi

  • Stick to MAGLA’s list: it’s your only route to a local complaint and to self-exclusion.
  • Budget for tax: with 15% withheld from every win, small, frequent wins shrink fast.
  • Compare odds between two licensed sites on bigger bets.
  • Keep accumulators short: boosts look big, but long multi-bets rarely land.
  • Verify your account early so withdrawals aren’t delayed.
  • Be careful with Aviator: rounds last seconds, so losses add up quickly.
  • Ignore “fixed match” and “sure odds” sellers: they’re scams.
  • Never bet money meant for food, rent, school fees or farming inputs.

🆘 What to do if something goes wrong

  1. Contact the bookmaker through its official support, and keep screenshots of your bets, balance and transaction IDs.
  2. Contact your mobile money provider if a deposit or withdrawal is missing.
  3. Complain to MAGLA if the licensed bookmaker doesn’t resolve it. Its toll-free line 4252 (TNM and Airtel) handles complaints and clarifications, Monday to Friday, 7:30 to 16:30. You can also call +265 999 985 333 or email magla@magla.org.mw.
  4. Report illegal gambling to MAGLA on the same line.

MAGLA can act only against bookmakers it licenses. If you bet with an unlicensed site, you’re on your own.

🔍 How we researched this guide

We started with MAGLA’s own sources: its licensed-operator page (updated 9 March 2026), its September 2025 list of licensed operators, and its public notices on the 2026 licensing round and toll-free line. We matched each brand to its licensed company using MAGLA, FocusGN and iGaming Today. Product details come from Betting Malawi’s reviews (2025–2026), Nyasa Times, Complete Sports and FocusGN; tax details from Nation Online, FocusGN, RegFollower and Gambling Maps. Where sources disagree, for example on betPawa’s iPhone app or on how the casino tax is calculated, we say so. Bonuses change often, so always check the operator’s current terms.

🧘 Responsible gambling at betting sites in Malawi

Betting should be entertainment, not a way to earn money. Malawi has better support than many neighbours:

  • Toll-free line 4252: MAGLA’s free line on TNM and Airtel offers problem gambling counselling, complaints handling, self-exclusion and reporting of illegal gaming, Monday to Friday, 7:30 to 16:30.

  • Minors: under-18s can’t bet, and operators face heavy fines for letting a minor gamble.
  • Advertising limits: gambling ads on TV and radio are allowed only between 21:00 and 06:00.
  • Operator tools: ask your bookmaker for deposit limits, time-outs or account closure.

Warning signs include chasing losses, borrowing to bet, using money meant for food, rent, school fees or farming inputs, and hiding betting from family. If any of these sound familiar, call 4252.
