Best Betting Apps in Kenya 2026: SportPesa, Betika, SportyBet & More Compared
Looking for the best betting apps in Kenya? Almost every Kenyan bettor now bets on a phone, with M-Pesa built in. But the apps differ a lot: some are on Google Play, others are APK downloads; some are 2 MB, others more than 60 MB; and only a few have a real iPhone app.
This guide compares the main Kenyan betting apps from operators that display Kenyan licence numbers: where to download each one, its size, Android and iOS support, jackpots, payments and what makes it worth installing. It also explains Kenya’s 2026 licensing situation, which is unusually unsettled: as of mid-October 2026, the Gambling Regulatory Authority (GRA) hadn’t published its register of 2026 licences. Every fact was checked in October 2026.

📌 Key takeaways
Best overall: SportPesa, with a 5–10 MB APK, SMS and USSD betting, the Mega Jackpot and a 2026 GRA licence number on its site.
Easiest install: Betika and betPawa, both found on Google Play by Paybill KE in 2026.
Best for iPhone: Odibets (rated 4.3 on Kenya’s App Store) and SportyBet, which links to an App Store app.
Licence status: old licences ran until 24 September 2026, and the GRA hadn’t published a 2026 register as of 14 October 2026. Licence numbers here are those operators display.
Tax: 5% excise duty on deposits and 5% withholding tax on withdrawals.
Safety: download only from the operator’s own site, Google Play or the App Store. APKs shared on WhatsApp or Telegram can contain malware.
⚠️ Kenya licence status, October 2026: under the Gambling Control Act 2025, the GRA replaced the Betting Control and Licensing Board. Licences issued under the old regime were valid until 24 September 2026. As of 14 October 2026, the GRA hadn’t published a register of 2026 licences, and a High Court case over licence fees (JR E251 of 2026) was still pending, according to iGaming Times. Before you deposit, check the licence your app displays and confirm it on gra.go.ke or by calling the GRA on 0800 723 770.

5–10 MB APK + SMS + USSDMega Jackpot from KES 99 · GRAK/2026 number shown · 18+
Kenya’s most famous jackpot in a light app, with SMS and USSD for any phone.
Licence numbers are those shown on operators’ sites or the GRA’s 2025/26 register, as recorded by Paybill KE (19 October 2026) and our earlier checks. App sizes change with every update.
🤖 Google Play, APK or web app: how Kenyan betting apps are installed
Kenyan betting apps reach your phone in three ways, and sources don’t always agree on which brand uses which:
Google Play: Betika became Kenya’s first betting app on Google Play in July 2023, Kenyans.co.ke reported, and Paybill KE recommends installing it from there. Paybill KE also found betPawa on Google Play in October 2026, published by PawaTech with more than 100,000 downloads.
APK from the operator’s website: SportPesa, SportyBet, Odibets and Shabiki distribute their Android apps as files from their own websites, according to Paybill KE’s 2026 app guides.
Web app on iPhone: several operators don’t have a Kenyan App Store app, so iPhone users open the mobile site in Safari and choose “Add to Home Screen”. Odibets and SportyBet are the exceptions, with App Store apps.
Paybill KE’s guides say Google removed real-money betting apps from the Kenyan Play Store in 2018, yet its own guides find Betika and betPawa there today, so the situation clearly varies by operator. Whatever the route, the rule is the same: download only from the operator’s official site, Google Play or the App Store.
🔬 How we chose the best betting apps in Kenya
Kenyan licence: each operator displays a Kenyan licence number or appears on the GRA’s 2025/26 register. Because the 2026 register wasn’t published as of 14 October 2026, we show the numbers each operator displays and flag any disputes.
App quality and access: download route (Google Play, APK, App Store or web), size, minimum Android version and iPhone support.
M-Pesa: paybill numbers, minimum deposits and withdrawal speed.
Betting products: jackpots, live betting, cash out, and SMS or USSD for basic phones.
Data and storage: how light the app is for low-cost phones and limited bundles.
Safety: responsible gambling tools, support, and any regulatory or data-protection history.

📱SP
1. SportPesa: the best betting app in Kenya
★★★★★9.0/10
🛡️ Licence shown: GRAK/2026/BK185751 and GRAK/2026/PG056841 (Paybill KE, October 2026); Milestone Games Ltd, 0001193 on the 2025/26 register
🤖 Android: APK from sportpesa.com/app, 5–10 MB; phones below Android 8.0 may stop getting updates
📱 iPhone: web app; no App Store app in Kenya
💳 M-Pesa: paybill 955100; deposits from KES 49; withdrawals from KES 200
The app
SportPesa’s Android app is a 5 to 10 MB APK from sportpesa.com/app, according to Paybill KE’s August 2026 guide. It’s one of the lightest apps from a major Kenyan bookmaker. If your phone is too old for the app, you can still bet by SMS (DEPOSIT# and WITHDRAW# commands to 79079) or by USSD (*955#), so SportPesa works on almost any phone. Its app supports live betting and full or partial cash out.
🏆 Mega Jackpot
SportPesa’s Mega Jackpot asks you to predict 17 matches for KES 99, with bonuses for 12 to 16 correct. In August 2025, Bonnie Kamau won KSh 424,660,618, the largest payout in Kenyan betting history according to The Kenya Times, and in September 2026 a Kericho farmer won KSh 26.9 million on the Midweek Jackpot with his own picks.
🛡️ Licence
SportPesa displays 2026 GRA licence numbers on its site, which none of the other big Kenyan brands did when Paybill KE checked on 19 October 2026. We couldn’t confirm them on a published register, because the GRA hadn’t released one.
✅ Pros
✅ Light 5–10 MB app
✅ SMS and USSD for any phone
✅ Kenya’s biggest jackpot history
✅ 2026 licence numbers displayed
⚠️ Cons
⚠️ Not on Google Play
⚠️ No iPhone app
⚠️ No conventional welcome bonus
Best for: jackpot players and anyone with an older or basic phone.
🤖 Android: Google Play (Shop & Deliver Limited) or APK; Android 5.0+; about 20 MB (Paybill KE)
📱 iPhone: an App Store listing exists, but its latest version is dated 2022; Paybill KE recommends the web app
💳 M-Pesa: paybill 290290
The app
Betika was the first Kenyan betting app on Google Play, and Paybill KE still recommends installing it from there, with automatic updates. The app runs on Android 5.0 and up. Betika also offers Betika Lite for slow connections, and TechTrends KE mentions its “Bila Bundles” option for access without data on qualifying connections. On iPhone, the App Store listing we opened shows version 6.2.5 from 2022, so the mobile site is the better choice.
🏆 Jackpots
Betika’s Grand Jackpot covers 17 games for KES 99, with bonuses from 12 correct, and its Midweek Jackpot covers 13 games for KES 49. In December 2022, a university student won KES 200 million on the Grand Jackpot.
⚠️ Things to know
Betika had 29.1% of Kenyan betting search interest in September 2026, according to Blask data reported by iGaming Afrika. In October 2025, the Data Protection Commissioner ordered it to pay KES 250,000 compensation for asking a customer for excessive M-Pesa statements. And 254 News reported in October 2026 that a court application questioned Betika’s new 2026 licences; those are claims, not findings.
✅ Pros
✅ On Google Play
✅ Runs on Android 5.0+
✅ Betika Lite and Bila Bundles
⚠️ Cons
⚠️ iOS app outdated
⚠️ 2026 licences challenged
⚠️ No standing welcome bonus
Best for: Android users who want a Google Play install and big weekend jackpots.
🤖 Android: APK from sportybet.com/ke/mobile; Android 7.0+
📱 iPhone: “Download iOS for Free” on SportyBet’s site opens its App Store listing (Paybill KE, 28 Oct 2026)
💳 M-Pesa: paybill 590555; deposits from KES 1
The app
SportyBet’s Kenyan app is an APK from sportybet.com/ke/mobile and needs Android 7.0 or later, according to Paybill KE’s October 2026 guide. Unlike most Kenyan rivals, SportyBet also has an iPhone app: the iOS button on its site opens its App Store listing. Paybill KE calls the app “best-in-class for Kenya in 2026”.
💳 Fast and low-cost
SportyBet accepts deposits from just KES 1 with no fee, up to KES 250,000. Paybill KE reports deposits in under 30 seconds and verified withdrawals in under 10 minutes; unverified accounts are limited to KES 5,000 a day.
🎁 Welcome offer
Football Whispers describes a First Deposit Gift of up to 300%, capped at KES 1,500 (deposit KES 500 to get the maximum). Sources disagree on the conditions, so check them in the app.
✅ Pros
✅ Deposits from KES 1
✅ Fast withdrawals
✅ iPhone app
⚠️ Cons
⚠️ APK only on Android
⚠️ Footer still names the old regulator
⚠️ Bonus terms unclear
Best for: low-stakes bettors who want fast M-Pesa payouts, and iPhone users.
📱 iPhone: “Odibets” on Kenya’s App Store, 53.4 MB, iOS 16.6+, rated 4.3 from 245 ratings
💳 M-Pesa: paybill 290680; withdrawals from KES 100
The app
Odibets has one of the smallest Android apps in Kenya (2 MB per TechTrends KE, 3 to 5 MB per Paybill KE) and one of the few rated iPhone apps, at 4.3 out of 5. TechTrends KE notes that registration, deposits and betting menus work “with no graphics loading”, which keeps data use down. Its App Store listing covers sports betting plus Aviator, JetX, slots and live casino.
📲 App-only rewards
Odibets runs app-specific promotions: Capital FM reported in March 2026 that “Zoza na Odibets App” paid app users up to KES 50,000 a week just for betting on the app. Odibets also has OdiLeague virtual football and live-streamed OdiTV.
⚠️ Licence status
254 News reported that 2026 licence numbers appeared on Odibets’ site on 8 October 2026 and were removed by 9 October, during court proceedings. Paybill KE found the earlier numbers on its footer on 19 October.
✅ Pros
✅ Tiny Android APK
✅ Well-rated iPhone app
✅ App-only promotions
⚠️ Cons
⚠️ 2026 licence status unclear
⚠️ iOS 16.6 or later needed
⚠️ Minimum deposit figures disagree (KES 1 or 50)
Best for: iPhone users and anyone short of storage.
🤖 Android: Google Play, “betPawa – Sports Betting App” by PawaTech, 100K+ downloads; 1.85 MB download (TechTrends KE)
📱 iPhone: mobile web
💳 M-Pesa: paybill 290020; deposits from KES 1 (also listed as KES 50)
The app
betPawa combines the smallest download we found (1.85 MB, according to TechTrends KE) with a Google Play listing, which Paybill KE confirmed on 28 October 2026. That makes it the easiest light app to install and keep updated.
🎁 Win Bonus
betPawa’s Win Bonus adds extra winnings to qualifying multi bets, with no wagering requirement on the bonus; it doesn’t apply to jackpots, according to Paybill KE. betPawa had the fourth-highest search interest among Kenyan bookmakers in September 2026, per Blask.
✅ Pros
✅ 1.85 MB on Google Play
✅ Win Bonus with no wagering
✅ Very low minimum deposit
⚠️ Cons
⚠️ No iPhone app
⚠️ Win Bonus doesn’t apply to jackpots
Best for: multi-bet fans with low-cost Android phones.
6. Mozzartbet: the best app for jackpots and shops
★★★★8.0/10
🛡️ Licence shown: BK 0001188 / PG 0001189 (Mozzartbet Kenya Ltd); footer still names BCLB
🤖 Android: APK of 10–20 MB from mozzartbet.co.ke (Paybill KE, Aug 2026) or Google Play, 64 MB, Android 5.0+ (Goal)
📱 iPhone: sources disagree: Goal lists an App Store app (iOS 15.0+, 115.1 MB); Paybill KE says there’s no iOS app in Kenya
💳 M-Pesa: paybill 290059; deposits from KES 50, withdrawals from KES 200
The app
Goal’s guide highlights cash out on live bets, the Super Grand Jackpot and a daily Super Jackpot, virtual sports and live betting in the Mozzartbet app. Sources disagree on how to get it: Paybill KE says it’s an APK from mozzartbet.co.ke and that there’s no Kenyan App Store app, while Goal lists Google Play and App Store versions. Use the links on Mozzartbet’s own website.
🏪 Cash at shops
Mozzartbet also runs betting shops where you can deposit and collect cash, which is useful if you prefer not to use M-Pesa for every transaction.
✅ Pros
✅ Daily and Super Grand jackpots
✅ Cash out on live bets
✅ Physical shops
⚠️ Cons
⚠️ Conflicting app details
⚠️ Footer still names the old regulator
⚠️ Promotional banners take up screen space (Paybill KE)
Best for: jackpot players who also use betting shops.
7. Shabiki: SMS and USSD betting with a big jackpot
★★★½7.6/10
🛡️ Licence: BK 0001080 / PG 0001082 (Playco Technology Ltd) on the 2025/26 register
🤖 Android: APK from shabiki.com, typically 10–30 MB; phones below Android 8.0 may stop getting updates
📱 iPhone: no iOS app; use the mobile site
💳 M-Pesa: paybill 290063; SMS 29063
The app
Shabiki’s Android app is an APK from shabiki.com, typically 10 to 30 MB according to Paybill KE, which says it’s “small enough to install over 3G”. There’s no iPhone app; Paybill KE says the mobile site covers every feature of the Android app. Shabiki also supports SMS betting on 29063 and USSD.
🏆 Supa Jackpot
Shabiki’s Supa Jackpot covers 17 games for KES 99, and it launched with a KES 100 million prize, Citizen Digital reported.
✅ Pros
✅ SMS and USSD betting
✅ 17-game Supa Jackpot
⚠️ Cons
⚠️ No iPhone app
⚠️ Less independent review data than bigger brands
Betway: stopped taking deposits in Kenya on 16 May 2023 and later applied for liquidation.
1win, Cheza Crash, Skai Crash, Vuma Bet, Aviator 254: named in the regulator’s April 2025 crackdown on illegal sites.
Melbet: on the 2025/26 register, but we couldn’t verify enough about its Kenyan app.
Yellow Bet and other new brands: licences not independently confirmed.
Any “mod APK”: unofficial modified versions of real apps. Paybill KE warns that third-party APK mirrors are “typically repackaged with adware”.

⚡ Live betting and cash out on mobile
Live (in-play) betting is where apps beat SMS and USSD: odds update every few seconds during a match, and you can react to what’s happening. Cash out lets you settle a bet before it finishes for a guaranteed amount, which is lower than the full potential win if your bet is winning, or higher than zero if it’s going wrong. SportPesa added full and partial cash out to its app, Business Today reported, so you can take some of your stake back and leave the rest running.
Two tips for live betting on a phone:
Use a stable connection. Odds can change between tapping and confirming, and apps may reject a bet if the price moves.
Set limits first. Live betting is fast, which makes it easy to place more bets than you planned. Kenyan operators must offer deposit, loss and session limits; set them before the match starts.
🔐 Your data and Kenyan betting apps
Betting apps collect sensitive data: your ID, phone number and M-Pesa activity. Kenya’s Data Protection Act 2019 gives you rights over that data, including the right to ask for it to be deleted. The Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC) has acted against betting firms: in October 2025 it ordered Betika to pay KES 250,000 compensation, finding that asking for an ID was acceptable but requesting M-Pesa statements was excessive, and it fined SportPesa over a data breach in March 2025, according to Focus GN.
What this means for you:
Expect ID checks: KYC with your national ID is a legal requirement.
Question unusual requests: if an app asks for far more documents than an ID and phone number, ask why.
Review app permissions: a betting app doesn’t need your contacts or SMS inbox.
Ask for deletion if you close your account and want your data removed, subject to legal retention rules.
🧰 Common app problems and fixes

📈 Kenya’s betting app market in 2026
Kenya’s betting market is dominated by a handful of local brands. In September 2026, Betika had 29.1% of betting search interest, ahead of SportPesa in second place, with betPawa fourth, according to Blask data reported by iGaming Afrika. The same report said overall demand rose by 29.5%.
The industry is also going through its biggest regulatory change in years. Under the new licensing regulations, an online bookmaker or casino licence costs KES 50 million, plus a KES 5 million application fee, Techweez reported, and the High Court noted 246 pending licence applications in August 2026. Some well-known brands have already left: Betway stopped taking Kenyan deposits in 2023 and later applied for liquidation, and Betsafe also exited. That’s another reason to choose an established, licensed app and to keep only the money you’re actively using in your betting balance.

💳 Depositing and withdrawing with M-Pesa in the app
All the apps in this guide use M-Pesa. You can usually deposit in two ways:
In the app (STK push): enter the amount in the app’s deposit screen, then approve the M-Pesa prompt on your phone with your PIN.
Through the paybill: in the M-Pesa menu, choose Lipa na M-Pesa > Pay Bill, enter the operator’s paybill number (for example 955100 for SportPesa or 290290 for Betika), your account reference and the amount.
Before you confirm, check that the M-Pesa screen shows the operator’s registered name, such as “SPORTPESA KENYA” or “BETIKA KENYA”. Paybill KE warns that a person’s name instead of a company name is a sign to stop.
Withdrawals go back to the M-Pesa number on your account. Kenya’s Gambling Control Act requires operators to pay winnings within two days, according to iGaming Times, and most apps pay much faster once you’re verified.
How tax affects your app balance
Kenya charges 5% excise duty on deposits and 5% withholding tax on withdrawals. For example, if you deposit KES 1,000, about KES 950 reaches your betting balance, and if you withdraw KES 2,000, you receive about KES 1,900. The 20% rate in the Finance Act 2026 applies to lottery and prize-competition winnings, not ordinary sports bets, according to iGaming Times.
⚖️ Kenya’s 2026 rules for betting apps
The Gambling Control Act 2025, in force since 26 August 2025, and its regulations change how betting apps work:
KYC before activation: operators must verify your identity before your account is activated and before your first deposit.
KES 20 minimum online stake, according to CM Advocates.
No credit cards and no crypto for gambling, unless approved.
Limits: operators must offer deposit, loss and session limits.
Advertising: gambling adverts are restricted between 06:00 and 22:00, and operators must “refrain from offering inducements”, which is why big welcome bonuses are rare in Kenya.
Software licensing: the 2026 regulations also license the software behind online gambling and require RNG certification, Techweez reported.
🔍 How to check a betting app’s licence
Open the app’s footer or “About” page and note the licence number. New 2026 numbers start with GRAK/2026; older ones look like BK 0001117 or PG 0001113.
Check the regulator named. The GRA replaced the BCLB, so an app that still names the BCLB may simply not have updated its footer, or may not have a new licence; ask the operator.
Check gra.go.ke for the current register, or call the GRA toll-free on 0800 723 770.
Check the paybill name in M-Pesa before paying.
🛠️ How to install a Kenyan betting APK safely
Type the operator’s address yourself, for example sportpesa.com or sportybet.com/ke. Never use APK links from WhatsApp or Telegram.
Find the app page (often “App”, “Mobile” or a download banner) and choose Android.
Check the file size in the download prompt.
Allow installs from your browser when Android asks (Settings > Apps > Special access > Install unknown apps).
Install the APK, then switch the permission off again.
Log in and complete KYC before your first deposit.
💡 If your phone runs Android 7 or older, some apps may stop updating; Paybill KE notes this for SportPesa, Odibets, Mozzartbet and Shabiki below Android 8.0. Use the mobile site, SMS or USSD instead.
🍏 Betting on iPhone in Kenya
Only some Kenyan bookmakers have App Store apps. Odibets (53.4 MB, iOS 16.6 or later, rated 4.3) and SportyBet (via the iOS button on its site) do. For SportPesa, Shabiki and betPawa, Paybill KE recommends the mobile site. To make the mobile site feel like an app:
Open the bookmaker’s site in Safari.
Tap the Share button and choose “Add to Home Screen”.
Name the icon and tap Add. It now opens like an app, without using storage.
📟 SMS and USSD betting: no app, no data
If you have a basic phone or no data bundle, some Kenyan bookmakers let you bet without an app:
SportPesa: SMS to 79079 (for example DEPOSIT# and WITHDRAW# commands) and USSD *955#.
Shabiki: SMS to 29063 and USSD.
SMS charges may apply, and you’ll have fewer markets than in the app, but it’s a reliable option on any phone.

Jackpots are very hard to win: predicting 17 matches correctly is extremely unlikely. Treat jackpot stakes as entertainment, not a plan.
📶 Saving data and storage
Pick a light app: betPawa, Odibets and SportPesa are under about 10 MB.
Avoid live streaming on mobile data; it uses far more data than placing bets.
Use Betika’s Bila Bundles or Lite options where available.
Update apps on Wi-Fi.
Clear the cache in Settings > Apps > Storage when an app gets large.
🚩 Red flags: fake betting apps in Kenya
APKs shared on WhatsApp, Telegram or file-sharing sites. Paybill KE warns that they “may contain malware”.
Paybills or tills in a person’s name rather than the operator’s registered company name.
“Fixed match” and “sure odds” apps or groups asking for payment.
Aviator “predictor” apps. Crash results can’t be predicted.
Apps asking for SMS, contacts or accessibility permissions.
Brands named in regulators’ illegal-site lists, such as those in the April 2025 crackdown.
📖 Glossary
APK: the file used to install Android apps outside Google Play.
Paybill: an M-Pesa business number used to pay the operator.
STK push: the M-Pesa PIN prompt the app sends to your phone.
GRA: the Gambling Regulatory Authority, Kenya’s regulator since 2025.
BK / PG licence: bookmaker and public gaming licence numbers under the old regime.
Excise duty: the 5% tax on deposits.
Withholding tax: the 5% tax on withdrawals.
Cash out: settling a bet early for a guaranteed amount.
🧘 Responsible gambling
Kenya’s Ministry of Health has called problem gambling an emerging public health threat. A betting app in your pocket makes it easy to bet more often than you meant to, so use the deposit, loss and session limits in your account, turn off promotional notifications, and never bet with money meant for rent, school fees or food.
GRA self-exclusion: exclude yourself for 6 months to 5 years; toll-free 0800 723 770.
Ministry of Health helpline: 719.
one2one: 1190.
Account tools: deposit limits with cooling-off periods of 24 to 72 hours at SportPesa and Betika, according to Paybill KE.
🔞 Adults only: you must be 18 or older to bet in Kenya.
❓ Frequently asked questions
What is the best betting app in Kenya?
SportPesa is our top pick: a light 5–10 MB app, SMS and USSD options, the Mega Jackpot, and 2026 GRA licence numbers on its site. Betika and SportyBet are close behind.
Which betting apps are on Google Play in Kenya?
