AFCON 2027 Betting Guide (November 2026): Dates, Qualifiers, Markets and Licensed Bookmakers in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Nigeria & Ghana

Our AFCON 2027 betting guide covers everything you need before the first Africa Cup of Nations hosted by three countries. Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania will stage the tournament from 19 June to 17 July 2027, and qualification is already under way, with some big surprises: after two matchdays, Ghana had no points and Nigeria sat second in a group where only one non-host team can qualify.

This guide explains the tournament format, venues and qualifying picture, the betting markets worth understanding, practical tips for betting on AFCON, and the licensed bookmakers, payment methods and taxes in each of our five countries. Every fact was checked in October and November 2026, and we’ll update the guide as qualifying finishes and odds firm up.

🏟️ AFCON 2027: the tournament explained

The 2027 Africa Cup of Nations will be the first edition hosted by three countries. Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania were awarded hosting rights on 27 September 2023, and FIFA confirmed the dates of 19 June to 17 July 2027 ahead of its 76th Congress, Nation reported. As usual, 24 teams will take part.

For bettors, the East African setting matters in three ways:

  • Time zones: matches will be on East Africa Time (UTC+3). That’s the same time in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, two hours ahead of Nigeria (UTC+1) and three hours ahead of Ghana (UTC+0), so an evening kick-off in Nairobi is late afternoon in Accra.
  • Conditions: Nairobi sits at around 1,800 metres above sea level and Arusha is also at altitude, while Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar are hot coastal cities. Different venues may suit different teams.
  • Home support: the three hosts are guaranteed places and will play in front of their own fans.

Venues

CAF hadn’t officially confirmed the stadiums or the venues for the opening match and final by late September 2026. CAF has said: “CAF will announce the Country that will host the Opening Match and the Final in due course.” These are the main candidate stadiums reported by Wikipedia, beIN Sports and Travel Ease:

🧮 How qualifying works, and why it matters for betting

Qualifying involves 48 teams in 12 groups of four, with matches during FIFA windows: matchdays 1–2 were played from 21 September to 6 October 2026, matchdays 3–4 run from 9 to 17 November 2026, and matchdays 5–6 from 22 to 30 March 2027.

  • Standard groups: the top two teams qualify.
  • Host groups: Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania qualify automatically as co-hosts, but still play. Their results count for the other teams, and only the highest-placed non-host team joins them, according to the AFCON 2027 Tanzania Guide.

That rule makes life harder for anyone drawn with a host. Nigeria are in Tanzania’s group (Group L), so they must finish as the best non-host team, not just in the top two.

Upcoming qualifiers (November 2026)

  • Nigeria vs Tanzania: 11 and 15 November.
  • Ghana vs Somalia: 11 and 15 November.
  • Kenya vs South Africa: 11 and 15 November.
  • Uganda vs Botswana: 11 and 15 November.

The final two matchdays follow in March 2027, including Ghana vs Côte d’Ivoire and Gambia, and Nigeria vs Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau, according to NBC Sports’ schedule.

💡 Betting angle: “To qualify” markets on Nigeria and Ghana may offer prices that would have seemed unthinkable a year ago. But both still have four games to play, and odds will move fast after each result.

🏆 Who are the champions? The 2025 dispute

AFCON 2027 starts with an unusual question: who is the defending champion? Senegal beat hosts Morocco 1–0 after extra time in the 2025 final in Rabat on 18 January 2026, with Pape Gueye scoring. But the match was marred by a long stoppage: Senegal’s players left the pitch after a late penalty was awarded to Morocco, before returning; Brahim Díaz’s penalty was saved.

On 17 March 2026, CAF’s Appeal Board ruled that Senegal had forfeited the final and recorded a 3–0 win for Morocco, making Morocco champions for the first time since 1976, NBC Sports reported. Senegal’s federation called it “an unfair, unprecedented and unacceptable decision” and appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. CAS heard the case in Lausanne on 8 October 2026 and said its award was “expected at the end of November 2026”, Al Jazeera reported.

⚠️ If you’re betting on markets connected to the 2025 result or “defending champions”, check how your bookmaker settles them. The CAS ruling could change the official record.

Egypt remain the most successful team in AFCON history, with seven titles. Storylines worth watching for bettors:

  • Morocco, South Africa, Côte d’Ivoire, DR Congo, Guinea-Bissau, Rwanda and Mali all had maximum points after two games.
  • Ghana and Cape Verde had no points.
  • Senegal, who won the 2025 final on the pitch, were level on 4 points with Mozambique in Group J.
  • Tunisia had only 2 points in Uganda’s group, where only one non-host team can qualify.

🔢 How betting odds work

Most bookmakers display decimal odds, and some let you switch to fractional. Here’s how to read them:

Decimal oddsFractionalImplied probabilityReturn on a 1,000 stake
1.501/2About 67%1,500
2.001/1 (evens)50%2,000
3.002/1About 33%3,000
5.004/120%5,000
11.0010/1About 9%11,000

The implied probability is 1 divided by the decimal odds. Add up the implied probabilities for all outcomes of a market and you’ll usually get more than 100%: the extra is the bookmaker’s margin. A smaller margin means better value for you, which is one reason to compare odds between two licensed bookmakers.

🧮 Accumulators: the maths behind the risk

Accumulators are hugely popular for AFCON, and several bookmakers in our guide add bonuses to them, such as betPawa’s Win Bonus and SportyBet’s Multiple Bet Bonus. But each extra leg cuts your chances. Here’s an illustration using legs at decimal odds of 2.00 (roughly a 50% chance each, before the bookmaker’s margin):

LegsCombined oddsRough chance of winning
24.00About 1 in 4
416.00About 1 in 16
664.00About 1 in 64
8256.00About 1 in 256

Illustration only; real chances are slightly lower because of the bookmaker’s margin, and results in the same tournament aren’t always independent.

An accumulator bonus increases the payout if you win, but it doesn’t change these odds. Keep accumulators short if you want a realistic chance of winning.

🎯 AFCON 2027 betting markets explained

Licensed bookmakers usually offer a wide range of AFCON markets. These are the main ones, and how they work:

MarketWhat you’re betting onWhen it’s available
Outright winnerWhich team wins the tournamentLong before the tournament; prices move with qualifying and squad news
To qualifyWhether a team reaches AFCON 2027During qualifying (until March 2027)
Group winnerWhich team tops a group at the finalsAfter the finals draw
To reach a stageA team reaching the quarter-finals, semi-finals or finalBefore and during the tournament
Match result (1X2)Home win, draw or away win in 90 minutesEvery match
Double chanceTwo of the three resultsEvery match
Over/under goalsTotal goals above or below a line, such as 2.5Every match
Both teams to scoreWhether both sides scoreEvery match
Correct scoreThe exact final scoreEvery match
To qualify (knockouts)Which team progresses, including extra time and penaltiesKnockout rounds
Top scorer (Golden Boot)The tournament’s leading scorerBefore and during the tournament
Player propsA player to score, be booked or have shots on targetMost matches
ℹ️ 90 minutes vs to qualify: in knockout matches, “match result” markets usually settle on 90 minutes plus stoppage time only, while “to qualify” includes extra time and penalties. Always check the market rules.

💡 Practical tips for betting on AFCON 2027

  1. Bet only with a bookmaker licensed in your country. Licensed operators must pay out, verify your identity and offer responsible gambling tools.
  2. Set a tournament budget before 19 June 2027. AFCON lasts a month, with matches almost every day in the group stage; decide what you can afford to lose in total, not per match.
  3. Watch qualifying and team news. Outright and “to qualify” prices change after every result, injury and squad announcement.
  4. Think about conditions. Altitude in Nairobi and Arusha and heat on the coast may affect tempo and fitness, especially for teams unused to them.
  5. Compare odds between two licensed bookmakers before larger bets. Small differences add up over a tournament.
  6. Be careful with long accumulators. Each extra leg multiplies the risk; accumulator bonuses don’t change that.
  7. Use cash out and live betting carefully. They’re useful tools, but fast in-play betting makes it easy to overspend.
  8. Ignore “fixed match” and “sure win” sellers. They’re scams, and nobody can guarantee a result.

🏠 Betting on the host nations

Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania are guaranteed places at AFCON 2027, and they’ll play in front of home crowds. For bettors in the host countries, that means extra interest in markets such as “to win a group game”, “to reach the knockout stage” and player props for local stars. Their qualifying results so far are mixed: after two matchdays, Uganda had 4 points, while Kenya and Tanzania had 1 point each. Because hosts’ qualifying matches still count for their opponents, they can also shape who joins them in the finals.

🦅 Nigeria and Ghana: the qualifying challenge

Nigeria and Ghana are two of Africa’s most successful football nations, but both started qualifying badly:

  • Nigeria (Group L): 3 points from two games, three behind Guinea-Bissau, in a host group where only one non-host qualifies. Their back-to-back games against Tanzania on 11 and 15 November 2026 are crucial.
  • Ghana (Group C): 0 points from two games, six behind Côte d’Ivoire and Gambia, in a group where the top two qualify. They play Somalia twice in November and face Côte d’Ivoire and Gambia in March 2027.

For bettors in Nigeria and Ghana, that makes the “to qualify” market especially interesting, but also especially emotional. Bet with your head, not your heart, and never bet more than you can afford to lose on your own team.

⚡ Live betting and streaming during AFCON

Live betting will be popular during AFCON, especially on mobile. Some licensed bookmakers stream matches or show live match trackers: Betano’s Nigerian app combines casino and live streaming according to Goal, and Betway Ghana offers live streaming of major events according to Goal. Streaming rights vary by country and match, so check what your bookmaker offers. Remember that streaming uses a lot of data; use Wi-Fi or a data-free mode where available.

📱 Betting on AFCON from your phone

Most AFCON bets in our five countries will be placed on phones, often on mobile data. These are the lightest options we found in our 2026 app research:

CountryLight app or no-data option
🇰🇪 KenyabetPawa app 1.85 MB on Google Play; Odibets APK 2–5 MB; SportPesa APK 5–10 MB plus SMS (79079) and USSD (*955#); Betika Lite and Bila Bundles
🇺🇬 UgandabetPawa app 2.5 MB; USSD at betPawa and GSB
🇹🇿 TanzaniabetPawa app 2.2 MB; SMS and USSD at SportPesa; GSB USSD *150*60#
🇳🇬 NigeriaSportyBet’s light app (sizes vary by source); Bet9ja’s Mobile Lite mode
🇬🇭 GhanaBetika app 14 MB and Betika Lite; 1xBet Lite APK 9.2 MB; Betika USSD *263#

Download apps only from the bookmaker’s own website, Google Play or the App Store, never from links shared on WhatsApp or Telegram during the tournament, when fake “AFCON special” apps are likely to circulate.

⚖️ AFCON betting and the law in each country

  • Kenya: the Gambling Control Act 2025 sets a KES 20 minimum online stake, requires identity checks before your account is activated, bans credit cards and crypto for gambling, and requires winnings to be paid within two days.
  • Uganda: you must be 25 or older, and the NLGRB’s 2025 responsible gaming directives prohibit credit and promotions that encourage repeated gambling.
  • Tanzania: the Gaming Act and 2022 internet gaming regulations govern online betting; the Advertising Code 2023 bars inducements, and players can set deposit and wager limits.
  • Nigeria: gambling is regulated by the states since the Supreme Court’s November 2024 ruling; Lagos licenses most online bookmakers and publishes illegal-operator lists. Some northern states prohibit gambling.
  • Ghana: the Gaming Commission licenses operators under the Gaming Act 2006 (Act 721), and you’ll need a Ghana Card to verify your account.

❌ Common AFCON betting mistakes

  1. Betting with your heart. Backing your own country every game, whatever the odds, is the quickest way to lose money in a month-long tournament.
  2. Ignoring market rules. A “match result” bet in a knockout game usually settles after 90 minutes, not after extra time or penalties.
  3. Chasing losses. With matches almost every day in the group stage, it’s tempting to win back yesterday’s losses today. Stick to your budget.
  4. Long accumulators. Eight-leg slips rarely win, even with a bonus.
  5. Using unlicensed sites. Offshore sites advertising big AFCON bonuses on social media may not pay out.
  6. Forgetting tax. In Kenya, 5% comes off every deposit; in Uganda, 15% of net winnings; in Lagos, 5% of net winnings.
  7. Buying “sure tips” or “fixed matches”. They’re scams.

👟 Top scorer and player markets

The Golden Boot market (tournament top scorer) is popular, but it’s harder than it looks. A player’s team needs to go deep in the tournament, he needs to start most games, and penalties often decide the race. Before backing a player, check whether his country has qualified, whether he takes penalties, and how many group games his team is likely to dominate. Player props such as “to score anytime” or “shots on target” are available for most matches at licensed bookmakers and are usually best judged once teams are announced, about an hour before kick-off.

We’ll add AFCON 2027 top-scorer odds to this guide once licensed bookmakers publish them and the 24 finalists are known.

🔍 How we chose these bookmakers

Every bookmaker in this guide passed the same checks. First, it must hold a licence in the country we list it for, confirmed on the regulator’s register where one is published (NLGRB in Uganda, the Gaming Board of Tanzania, LSLGA in Lagos, and the Gaming Commission of Ghana) or, in Kenya, through the licence numbers operators display while the GRA’s 2026 register is pending. Second, it must not appear on any regulator’s list of illegal or unauthorised operators. Third, it must offer the things AFCON bettors actually need: local mobile money, a working mobile app or light site, football markets beyond the match result, and responsible gambling tools such as deposit limits and self-exclusion.

We don’t rank bookmakers by the size of their bonus. A bonus with heavy wagering can be worth less than a smaller one with simple terms, and Uganda and Tanzania restrict promotions that encourage repeated gambling. We also don’t publish odds comparisons for individual matches, because prices change every few minutes; instead, we recommend comparing odds between two licensed bookmakers yourself before a bigger bet.

🔄 How we’ll update this guide

AFCON 2027 is still more than seven months away, so this guide will change. We’ll update it after the November 2026 qualifiers, after the CAS ruling on the 2025 title, when the final qualifiers finish in March 2027, when CAF confirms venues and the finals draw, and when licensed bookmakers launch AFCON-specific promotions. We’ll also re-check every bookmaker’s licence before the tournament, because several Ghanaian and Nigerian licences expire or need renewal before June 2027.

🛡️ Licensed bookmakers for AFCON 2027, by country

We only list bookmakers licensed in each country. Licence details come from the regulators’ registers or, in Kenya, the numbers operators display while the 2026 register is pending.
