How to Deposit with Airtel Money at Online Casinos in Kenya, Uganda & Tanzania (2026)
Airtel Money is one of East Africa’s biggest mobile wallets, and it’s accepted by many licensed betting and online casino sites in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. This guide shows you exactly how to deposit with Airtel Money at an online casino in each country, step by step, using the cashier prompt or USSD, plus what it costs, how long it takes, how to withdraw back to Airtel Money and what to do if a payment doesn’t arrive.
We also show which locally licensed sites accept Airtel Money, because a casino that isn’t licensed in your country gives you no protection if something goes wrong. Every fact is checked against a source, and where sources disagree, we say so.

📌 Key takeaways
There are two ways to deposit: approve a payment prompt sent to your phone from the casino’s cashier, or pay manually through the Airtel Money USSD menu.
Airtel Money USSD codes: *334# in Kenya, *185# in Uganda and *150*60# in Tanzania. You can also use the My Airtel app.
Deposits usually arrive within seconds or a few minutes. Never send the same payment twice if it’s slow to appear.
Airtel charges a fee on some payments, shown before you enter your PIN. In Kenya, paying a betting paybill from Airtel Money costs KES 7 to KES 108, depending on the amount.
Withdrawals usually go back to the same Airtel number you deposited from, in your own name.
Only use sites licensed in your country: Kenya’s Gambling Regulatory Authority, Uganda’s National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board, or the Gaming Board of Tanzania.
⚡ Quick guide: deposit with Airtel Money in 6 steps
Log in to a licensed casino or betting site and open the cashier or Deposit page.
Choose Airtel Money from the list of payment methods.
Enter the amount and the Airtel number registered on your account.
Approve the prompt that pops up on your phone by entering your Airtel Money PIN.
Wait for the confirmation SMS from Airtel, and keep the transaction ID.
Check your balance. If nothing appears after a few minutes, contact the site’s support with the transaction ID. Don’t pay again.
No prompt? Use the manual USSD route for your country, shown in the sections below.

⚖️ Is it legal to use Airtel Money at online casinos?
Using Airtel Money is legal; what matters is whether the casino is licensed in your country.
🇰🇪 Kenya: the Gambling Control Act 2025 created licence categories including online gambling, which covers online casinos, online bookmakers and online lotteries, according to law firm CM Advocates. New regulations published on 30 June 2026 also require online casino operators to name a licensed software supplier and provide RNG certificates from an accredited lab, Techweez reported. The Gambling Regulatory Authority hadn’t published its 2026 register by mid-October 2026, so check gra.go.ke before you deposit.
🇺🇬 Uganda: the National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board licenses online casinos separately from sports betting, with “CS” licence numbers on its 2026 list. Anyone under 25 counts as a minor for gambling. Since 1 July 2025, betting stakes and payouts must pass through a Bank of Uganda-licensed payment gateway linked to the Uganda Revenue Authority, according to 22Bet’s guide citing the Tax Procedures Code (Amendment) Act 2025.
🇹🇿 Tanzania: the Gaming Board of Tanzania licenses online casinos with “OC” or “OCL” licence numbers, separately from sports betting. It reported 62 licensed operators in September 2025, SiGMA said.
⚠️ Offshore casinos that accept Airtel Money without a local licence aren’t legal options. If something goes wrong, you’ll have no regulator to complain to, and regulators actively block illegal sites: Uganda’s board told Parliament in August 2026 that it had blocked 57 illegal sites.
🇰🇪 How to deposit with Airtel Money in Kenya
In Kenya, betting and casino sites are usually paid through a paybill number. Many sites list only an M-Pesa paybill, but Airtel Money can pay M-Pesa paybills directly, so the same number usually works.
Step by step: Airtel Money to a casino paybill
Dial *334# on your Airtel line, or open the My Airtel app.
Choose Make Payments, then Paybill (in some menus: Paybill and Till Payments, then Pay Bill).
Enter the casino’s paybill number. Copy it from the site’s own deposit page or official SMS, never from a social-media post.
Enter the account number the site asks for, usually your registered phone number.
Enter the amount and your Airtel Money PIN.
Check the recipient name before you confirm. If it doesn’t match the casino, cancel.
Keep the confirmation SMS and wait for your balance to update.
Paybillke’s Airtel guides for SportPesa, Odibets and 1xBet all follow this same route. Don’t re-send the money if your balance hasn’t updated yet: wait a few minutes, check the paybill and account number, then contact support with the transaction code.
What it costs
Paying an M-Pesa paybill from Airtel Money is a cross-network payment, and Paybillke says it always carries a fee. These were Airtel Kenya’s published paybill fees when Paybillke checked them on 30 August 2026:

In September 2026, Airtel Kenya advertised 50% cashback on paybill transaction fees, credited to a Bonus Wallet that you can check through *334#, option 98. The sponsored announcement didn’t say whether betting paybills qualify, so don’t count on it.

⚠️ Odibets: ChampsBase found Odibets accepting M-Pesa only in its August 2026 test, while a Paybillke guide describes paying it from Airtel Money. That guide also listed the wrong paybill (290290, which is Betika’s), so if you use Odibets, take the paybill only from Odibets’ own site.
Remember that Kenya’s 2026 licence register hadn’t been published by mid-October 2026. The licence numbers above are from the 2025/26 register; check gra.go.ke before you deposit. Kenyan law also bans credit cards and cryptocurrency for gambling, which makes mobile money the main way to pay.
🇺🇬 How to deposit with Airtel Money in Uganda
In Uganda, most licensed sites send a payment prompt to your phone when you choose Airtel Money in the cashier. If the prompt doesn’t arrive, you can pay through USSD.
Method 1: the cashier prompt
Log in and go to Deposit, then choose Airtel Money.
Enter the amount and the Airtel number linked to your account. Some sites require it to match the number you registered with.
Approve the prompt with your Airtel Money PIN.
Wait for the SMS and check your balance.
Method 2: USSD on *185#
Dial *185# or open the MyAirtel app.
Choose Make Payments, then Pay Bill (some menus say “Payment” or “Goods & Services”).
Enter the merchant code or number exactly as the site’s Deposit screen shows it, plus any reference.
Enter the amount and your PIN.
Keep the transaction ID from the SMS until the money appears.
22Bet’s Uganda guide (October 2026) says deposits usually arrive within seconds of PIN approval, or up to five minutes when the network is busy, and to contact support if nothing appears after 30 minutes. It warns that USSD and payment prompts can be unstable at peak times, such as before big weekend matches, so deposit before kick-off.
Fees and taxes
Airtel’s fee depends on the amount and wallet type and is shown on the summary screen before you enter your PIN. 22Bet charges no fee of its own.
15% withholding tax applies to net winnings from 1 July 2026, deducted by the bookmaker. LiveScore’s example: a UGX 10,000 stake returning UGX 50,000 incurs UGX 6,000 in tax.
Cash-out levy: LiveScore reports a 0.5% excise duty when you cash out from your wallet at an agent, not when the casino pays you. Check the current rate before cashing out.

🇹🇿 How to deposit with Airtel Money in Tanzania
Tanzanian sites usually send a push prompt to your phone when you choose Airtel Money, which you approve with your PIN. Some sites also let you pay through Airtel’s USSD menu, *150*60#.
Step by step
Check your balance covers the deposit plus any Airtel fee, and that your signal is stable.
Open the Deposit page on the licensed site and choose Airtel Money.
Enter the amount once, without repeated edits.
Approve the prompt one time with your PIN. If the network is slow, wait rather than retrying.
Save the confirmation message until your balance updates.
Meridianbet’s Tanzania guide stresses one clean attempt: if a deposit is pending, don’t start another, and if it fails, check your balance, limits and signal before making one corrected retry. At GSB, bettingcompanies.africa reports that you can also pay with Airtel’s USSD menu, *150*60#.

Mobile money is huge in Tanzania: SiGMA, citing the communications regulator, reported 71.7 million mobile money subscriptions by September 2025. 22Bet, Melbet, bet365 and Stake aren’t on the Gaming Board’s online register, so avoid them there.
💸 How to withdraw to Airtel Money
Withdrawing is usually done from the casino’s side, not from your Airtel menu.
Verify your account first. Licensed sites ask for your national ID or passport before your first withdrawal. In Kenya, the law requires identity checks before your account is activated and before your first deposit.
Make sure the names match. The name on your casino account should match the name on your Airtel Money wallet, or the payout may be delayed.
Open the Withdraw page and choose Airtel Money (or mobile money).
Enter the amount within the site’s limits and confirm.
Wait for the SMS from Airtel confirming the payment.
Many sites only pay out to the number you deposited from. 22Bet, for example, sends withdrawals back through the same method you used to deposit, so contact support before switching wallets. In Kenya, the Gambling Control Act requires monetary winnings to be paid within two days.
ℹ️ A “pending” withdrawal usually means the site is reviewing it, often for verification. Once it’s released, the money normally reaches your wallet quickly.

Because the sources disagree, check the deductions shown on your account and receipts.
📏 Deposit limits
Each site sets its own minimum and maximum, and your Airtel wallet has its own transaction and daily limits, which can be lower. Examples we confirmed:
22Bet Uganda: minimum Airtel deposit of UGX 1,000; the maximum shows on the deposit screen.
Bangbet Uganda: up to UGX 5,000,000 per transfer and UGX 20,000,000 per day through its gateway.
betPawa Tanzania: deposits from TZS 100 and withdrawals from TZS 2,000.
Parimatch Tanzania: deposits from TZS 500 and withdrawals of TZS 2,000 to TZS 5,000,000.
Before you deposit, also set a deposit limit in your casino account. Kenya’s law requires operators to offer deposit, loss and session limits, and Uganda’s 2025 responsible gambling directives require limits too.
🛠️ Airtel Money deposit problems and fixes
Problem
What to do
No payment prompt appeared
Check your number in the cashier, then use the USSD route (*334#, *185# or *150*60#)
Paid, but the balance hasn’t updated
Wait a few minutes, then contact support with the Airtel transaction ID. Don’t pay again
Deposit pending for a long time
Don’t retry. 22Bet suggests contacting support after 30 minutes
Payment declined
Check your balance (including fees), wallet limits and signal, then make one corrected attempt
Wrong paybill or recipient (Kenya)
Contact the business with the transaction ID; if unresolved, call Airtel on 100
Recipient name doesn’t match the casino
Cancel before entering your PIN
Prompts failing on match day
Deposit well before kick-off; networks are busiest around big fixtures
Withdrawal not arriving
Complete verification, check the payout number and name, then contact support
🔒 Staying safe with Airtel Money
Copy payment numbers only from the casino’s own site or app. Fake paybills are common: Paybillke lists 290681 and 290608 as scam variants of Odibets’ 290680.
Read the recipient name on the confirmation screen before you enter your PIN.
Never share your Airtel Money PIN or one-time codes, including with someone claiming to be from the casino or Airtel.
Keep every transaction ID until your balance updates.
Make one attempt at a time. Repeated attempts can charge you twice.
Use your own wallet. Deposits from someone else’s wallet can cause verification problems and blocked withdrawals.

💸 Fee: no 22Bet fee; Airtel’s fee shown before PIN
Go to My Account, then Deposit, then Airtel Money; enter the amount and your Airtel number; and approve with your PIN. If no prompt appears, dial *185#, choose Make Payments and Pay Bill, and copy the details exactly as the deposit screen shows them. Withdrawals go back to the Airtel wallet that funded the account, and 22Bet may ask for your National ID before your first withdrawal. Its Uganda support line is toll-free on 0800 285 800.
betPawa is mobile money only in Tanzania, with stakes from TZS 1 and a 2.2 MB Android app, which makes it one of the easiest places to test an Airtel Money deposit with a tiny amount. Choose Airtel Money in the deposit menu, enter the amount and approve the push prompt with your PIN.
Betway’s Tanzanian site, run by Media Bay, holds both sports betting and online casino licences and accepts Airtel Money alongside the other major wallets. Bettingcompanies.africa reports extra verification for withdrawals above TZS 1 million, so verify early if you expect larger payouts.

✅ Checklist: choosing a casino for Airtel Money
Is it licensed in your country? Check the GRA (Kenya), NLGRB (Uganda) or Gaming Board (Tanzania).
Does it hold a casino licence? In Uganda look for a “CS” number, and in Tanzania an “OC” or “OCL” number.
Does it list Airtel Money for both deposits and withdrawals?
What are the minimums? Check both the deposit and withdrawal limits.
Does it publish game information? Look for RTP figures in each game’s info screen; many sites don’t publish them.
Can you set limits yourself? Deposit limits and self-exclusion should be in your account settings.
Is support reachable? Look for phone, live chat or WhatsApp in your language.
🎰 Before you play: how casino games work
Depositing is the easy part. Before you play, it helps to understand what you’re paying for:
Every game has a house edge. Over time, the casino keeps a share of what’s staked. A game with 96% return to player (RTP) keeps about KES 4, UGX 4 or TZS 4 of every 100 staked over millions of rounds, but anything can happen in one session.
Results are random. No pattern, schedule or “prediction app” can tell you when a slot will pay or when an Aviator plane will fly away.
Many sites don’t publish RTPs. In recent independent tests, ChampsBase found no published RTPs at several East African sites, including Odibets in Kenya.
Kenya is tightening the rules. Under regulations published on 30 June 2026, online casino operators must use a licensed supplier for their platform and games, and suppliers must provide a random number generator certificate from an accredited lab, Techweez reported.
Crash games are fast. Rounds last seconds, so set a session budget and an automatic cash-out target before you start.
🎁 Bonuses and Airtel Money deposits
Most welcome bonuses and promotions are triggered by your first deposit, whichever wallet you use, but always check the terms. Watch for:
Minimum qualifying deposits, which can be higher than the site’s normal minimum.
Payment exclusions: some bonuses exclude certain methods. For example, 22Bet’s Uganda sports bonus excludes crypto deposits.
Wagering requirements: how many times you must bet the bonus (and sometimes the deposit) before withdrawing.
Game restrictions: casino bonuses often count only on certain slots.
Time limits: some bonuses expire within days.
A bonus is never a reason to deposit more than you planned.
🇺🇬 Uganda’s payment gateway rules explained
Uganda has gone further than its neighbours in tying betting to tax collection. According to 22Bet’s October 2026 guide, Section 93A of the Tax Procedures Code (Amendment) Act 2025, in force since 1 July 2025, requires betting stakes and payouts to pass through a Bank of Uganda-licensed payment gateway linked to the Uganda Revenue Authority’s electronic system. Operators that don’t integrate face a penal tax of double the tax due or 5,500 currency points (UGX 110 million), whichever is higher.
For players, that means your Airtel Money deposits and payouts at licensed Ugandan sites run through approved gateways, and the 15% withholding tax on net winnings is deducted automatically. It’s another reason to avoid unlicensed sites, which sit outside this system.
🇰🇪 Kenya’s 2026 rules: what they mean for Airtel Money users
Kenya’s Conduct of Gambling Operations Regulations, 2026 (Legal Notice 112), described by Techweez, include several measures that affect players:
Integration with a national self-exclusion register, so excluding yourself can cover every licensed operator.
Geo-location blocking, to keep operators within their licensed markets.
Segregation of player funds from operators’ own money, which protects deposits and winnings if an operator becomes insolvent.
Storage of player data on servers in Kenya, unless the regulator grants an exemption.
The Gambling Control Act also requires winnings to be paid within two days and sets the minimum online stake at KES 20.
📱 Getting your Airtel Money wallet ready
A few minutes of preparation saves most deposit problems:
Use a line in your own name. Casino accounts must match the person verifying them, and many sites only pay out to the number you deposit from.
Register the same number on your casino account. In Kenya, paybill deposits use your registered phone number as the account number; in Uganda, some sites require the Airtel number to match your account.
Keep your PIN private and memorable. You’ll need it for every deposit prompt.
Check your wallet limits. Your Airtel wallet’s per-transaction and daily limits can be lower than the casino’s maximum.
Keep a little extra for fees. In Kenya, a KES 1,000 paybill payment needs KES 1,013 in your wallet.
Save the casino’s official payment details from its own deposit page, and nowhere else.
💳 Airtel Money vs cards and crypto
🇰🇪 Kenya: the Gambling Control Act bans credit cards and cryptocurrency for gambling, so mobile money, mainly M-Pesa and Airtel Money, is the standard way to pay.
🇺🇬 Uganda: some licensed sites also accept cards and crypto. 1xBet’s Ugandan cashier lists MTN, Airtel, cards, bank transfer and crypto, while 22Bet’s sports welcome bonus excludes crypto deposits.
🇹🇿 Tanzania: mobile money dominates; 1xBet also accepts crypto, but most licensed sites focus on M-Pesa, Tigo Pesa, Airtel Money and HaloPesa.
For most players, Airtel Money is simpler than cards or crypto: no bank details, no exchange-rate risk and payouts straight back to your phone.
📊 Mobile money betting in East Africa
Tanzania: 71.7 million mobile money subscriptions by September 2025, according to the regulator figures cited by SiGMA. The Gaming Board reported 62 licensed operators and revenue collections of TZS 260.21 billion.
Uganda: the gaming board told Parliament in August 2026 that it had blocked 57 illegal sites, and more than 2,000 Ugandans have used its self-exclusion programme, Focus Gaming News reported in July 2026.
Kenya: Blask search data for September 2026 gave Betika a 29.1% share of Kenyan betting brand searches, with SportPesa second; both are paid by paybill, which Airtel Money can pay directly.

🧮 Worked examples
Kenya: a KES 1,000 deposit
You pay KES 1,000 to a casino paybill from Airtel Money. Airtel’s cross-network paybill fee for KES 501–1,000 is KES 13, so KES 1,013 leaves your wallet. Kenyan betting taxes are then deducted by the site, so check the amount credited on your account.
Uganda: tax on a winning bet
You stake UGX 10,000 and your bet returns UGX 50,000. Your net winnings are UGX 40,000, and the 15% withholding tax is UGX 6,000, so UGX 44,000 is credited. If you then cash out UGX 44,000 from your Airtel wallet at an agent, LiveScore reports a 0.5% excise duty, about UGX 220, plus any agent fee.
Tanzania: a small first deposit
At betPawa, the minimum deposit is TZS 100 and stakes start at TZS 1, so you can test the Airtel Money process with a very small amount before depositing more. Withdrawals start at TZS 2,000.
🧪 Your first deposit and withdrawal: a test run
If you’ve never used Airtel Money at a casino before, a small test run shows you how the whole process works before you commit real money:
Register and verify. Sign up with your Airtel number and upload your ID straight away.
Set a deposit limit. Choose a daily, weekly or monthly cap in the responsible gambling settings.
Deposit a small amount. For example, TZS 100 at betPawa Tanzania, UGX 1,000 at 22Bet Uganda, or a small paybill payment in Kenya.
Note the timings. How long did the prompt take? When did the balance update?
Request a small withdrawal. Use the smallest amount the site allows, and see how long it takes to reach your Airtel wallet.
Keep your records. Save the transaction IDs from both payments.
If both payments work smoothly, you know the site and your wallet are set up correctly. If either one stalls, contact support before you deposit more.
💡 Tips for casino players using Airtel Money
Start small. Make a small first deposit to check the process works, then request a small withdrawal to test payouts.
Verify early. Upload your ID before you win, so your first withdrawal isn’t held up.
Set a casino budget. Casino games and crash games are fast and random; set a separate, smaller budget for them.
Mind the fees. Several small deposits can cost more in fees than one planned deposit.
Read bonus terms before you deposit: some bonuses exclude certain payment methods or games.
Know the age limits. 18 in Kenya and Tanzania, 25 in Uganda.
🧘 Responsible gambling
Mobile money makes depositing very easy, which also makes it easy to spend more than you planned. Only play with money you can afford to lose.
Warning signs
Topping up your wallet again and again in one session.
🇺🇬 Uganda: NLGRB toll-free line, 0800 285 800, and the national self-exclusion register.
🇹🇿 Tanzania: Gaming Board toll-free line, 0800 110 051, and the Afya Call Center on 199. In July 2026, the Board strengthened responsible gambling with temporary betting restrictions and counselling under its “Makinika Kijana, Kubeti Sio Ajira” campaign, Focus Gaming News reported.
Use your casino’s deposit limits and self-exclusion tools, and remove saved payment shortcuts from your phone if you need a break.
❓ Frequently asked questions

🏁 Final word: depositing with Airtel Money
Airtel Money is a quick and simple way to fund a licensed online casino or betting account in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. If the prompt doesn’t come, the USSD route (*334#, *185# or *150*60#) gets you there.
The rules for safe deposits are the same everywhere: use only sites licensed in your country, copy payment numbers from the site itself, check the recipient name, make one attempt at a time, verify your account early, and set a deposit limit before you play.
And keep perspective: the speed that makes Airtel Money so convenient also makes it easy to top up again after a loss. Decide your budget before you open the cashier, and if you find yourself depositing more often than you planned, use your casino’s limits or self-exclusion tools, or call your country’s helpline.
